Sony MDR-7506 overview

  • 1Description

The MDR-7506 is a staple within the recording, film and live arenas. Due to its low impedance and closed ear design, the headphone does an outstanding job of cutting down background noise while providing plenty of volume in the studio or in the field. Additionally, the closed design helps eliminate "headphone bleed" when overdubbing in the studio.

The MDR-7506 is an around-the-ear design and is ideal for use with MIDI workstations, camcorders or other equipment with less than powerful headphone amplification. The headphone has a foldable design, making it convenient to store or transport, and its coiled cable allows it to stretch and spring back into place whenever you need a bit more reach.

Circumaural closed-back stereo headphone ideal for use in professional applications
40mm diameter drive units deliver deeper bass, lower distortion and wider dynamic range
Neodymium magnets for maximum energy and minimum size
Compact, foldable design
Coiled cable allows for better mobility, and reach, while also preventing snags from tugging the headphones right off your ears
OFC cable and gold plated Unimatch plug provides both 1/8" mini-jack and 1/4"TRS phono connectivity

    Sony MDR-7506 reviews

MDR-7506 Headphones is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 1027.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap, comfortable, superb sound. My father bought this 10 years ago and its incredible how they can resist everything (in comparions with all of the others for the same price). They're durable, comfortable but the best thing is... this headphones SOUNDs SUPERB for the price A+ Recently i bought two pieces from this for two friends, they can't be believe the quality-price relationship (they are using for voice over recording). I tested, im a radio producer with knowledge on music production and im sure that every singer, voiceover or producer needs this mandatorily on his/her studio, no matter if is home or pro.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Old Sony's I've listened to music, voice-overs, film clips and yes, absolutely nothing with these headphones for 6 years now. They are nothing short of pure transparent sound - all I need in a headphone. I'm a picky listener, too. There have been times when the music runs out and I just keep wearing the headphones. They are very comfortable and block out a lot of office noise without being fancy noise-reducing headphones. My only gripe is that they smash my hair like any fitted phone would, so half the time I wear them around the back of my head resting on my neck, which works fine. I love them and would buy them again in a heartbeat for much more money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value, Nice Sound I think for the price these headphones are really good. The sound is clean and I feel like I can trust the accuracy of what I'm hearing. I do a lot of video and audio editing so for me, sound accuracy is really important. I could've went with semi-open headphones to get a little better quality sound but since I'll also be using these in the field I decided to go with this closed style. My only complaint so far is that the headphones aren't as comfortable as some others I've worn. I think I'll get used to them so I don't think it'll be a huge deal but it could be better in that regard. They fold down well which is nice for traveling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good monitor for recording but... I like these headphones and sound quality. I use them for recording in the studio. The biggest problem I have is the cord. They get tangled fast and the curly cord they can stretch long and they don't seem to go back to its original state. The mini plug adaptor option is nice but its actually the worst feature I hate. They get lost. And when you need them the most you cant find them. They would have made it the opposite. The big plug should be the default plug and the big plug to mini plug as the optional adaptor. And the last part are the air cushions. They get worn out fast but fortunately you can buy replacements at B&H. Overall its OK to have in the studio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but with some issues Clarity is good in in both higher and lower frequencies. Seals out outside sound pretty well. Things I don't like: Hurts my ears after about 30 minutes, the tension is strong and the ear pad cushion is not thick enough to keep the inside from pressing on my ear lobes. I would rather have round ear pads instead of oval ones so when I am lying down I can rotate the top head band so it doesn't want to slip off my head. The coating on the ear pads is thin. I've had this on a previous set of Sony headphones and it falls apart and flakes off. I can recommend these phones but only with those issues pointed out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for Video Location Use These are perfect! They are over-ear, so you hear what the mic is recording and nothing else. They are very comfortable. The cord is coiled, so when I am shooting video I don't have to worry about wrapping and tying the cord, or just having it drag on the ground. It has the single wire, not two coming off the headset. It comes with the adaptor for use on any device (sounds great with iPod). And the kicker is they FOLD, while not feeling flimsy at all. It comes with a carry bag. I love these headphones, and they don't cost too much. Plus, they can be REPAIRED! It comes with an exploded view diagram of replacement parts... wow... this is unheard of in post-modern days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony MDR-7506 Headphones Great professional headphones, very strong base, and excellent high frequency response. Own two pair of these, they are used in Church Worship sound monitoring, and 60's Rock Band as sound engineer. Very strong performers. I recommend the Garfield Softie Earpad covers to protect the ear pad covers, they also make the headphone more comfortable to wear. I wear the MDR-7506 and MDR-7509HD's sometimes up to 6-7 hours daily with no fatigue. Expertise: Have over 30 years experience in the industry. Problems Encountered: None at all. Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Own Sony MDR-V6, MDR-V600, and MDR-7509HD Items I Recommend: Garfield Headphone Softie Ear-Pad Covers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't beat 'em Went to Guitar Center and tried on some contenders - Sennheisers and Audio Technica, in the range of $150 - $300 - They all felt like they were crushing my head. These Sony's (or which I already owned 1 pair) are the only ones I can stand for hours at a time. Super light and just really comfy. Nice little bag to keep them in and they're also MUCH smaller to pack and travel with than the others, a big plus when packing for a flight for example! Just really great. Only flaw - I anticipate the earpiece covers may start to flake (my others did) but even if that happens I'd still opt for the comfort of these cans. If SONY could solve that issue they would have 100/100 of my vote. Right now it's 95/100.:)
