Ideal for photographing in high contrast situations, the 84 x 120mm Galen Rowell Graduated Neutral Density 0.6 Soft-Edge Filter from Singh-Ray helps to balance exposures and produce imagery with greater highlight and shadow detail. The filter's design places the 0.6, 2-stop density at the top of the filter and then transitions to clear by the center of the filter for a gradual, natural appearance. The soft-edge transition between the density and clear areas is well-suited for photographing scenes with an uneven or indistinct horizon line, as well as when working with a wide-angle lens. This filter is constructed from optical resin that is both durable and helps to maintain high clarity, and is compatible with the Cokin P filter holder.

Traditional graduated neutral density places the most density at the edge of the filter and tapers to clear by the center of the filter in order to accommodate photographing scenes with large bright areas, such as a daytime sky.
Soft-edge transition between density and clear portions of the filter is suitable for photographing scenes with an indistinct or uneven horizon or line between light and shadow, and is also best-suited for use with a wide-angle lens.
Neutral density 0.6 provides a 2 stop reduction in light in selective areas.
Constructed from optical resin for overall clarity and durability.
Compatible for use with the Cokin P filter holder.
Included filter pouch protects the filter when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing for Sunrise & Sunset situations The singh-ray 2-stop ND filter is amazing for controlling contrast during Sunrise and Sunset situations. I was bit confused whether 2-stop would be enough or I have to go for a 3-stop filter. After using it 3-4 times in the field I feel that 2-stop soft-edge filter does the job right without making the photos look unnatural. The filters are of very high quality and have no color-cast of any kind. They come in very nice packaging. Using the singh-ray filter in a Cokin P filter holder offers a lot of flexibility as you can move it up or down to align the edge with the horizon. This flexibility is lost if a screw-on filter is used. But due to the Cokin filter holder, the setup is little cumbersome but worth it, considering the final output you get.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must have for landscape photographers This is an absolute must have filter in your camera bag if you shoot landscapes. If you're on a limited budget then I'd highly recommend this filter and a 3 stop hard NDG from Singh-Ray. Pros: Excellent quality, no color cast like cheaper filters Cons: Expensive if you're on a limited budget, scratches easily, the soft edge is not for everyone: it can be hard to see the subtle graduation on the filter so if you're new to NDG filters might take some time to get used to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for landscape photographers I received this nd grad just in time for a trip to Lake Superior. I have never used a square nd grad before so I took photos of the lake on a stormy day with and without it. I was very impressed on how well the landscape photos looked with the filter when I compared them side by side to ones without. This piece of equipment may be my favorite one in my bag. Wish I had purchased this sooner when I first started to try to capture landscapes. I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about photography, even though it is on the pricier side. I like the fact it came with a soft pouch to store it in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Grad NDensity filter... This filter is a must have in the toolbox. Even though HDR is the rage these days, getting the shot right in the field beets processing any day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You need this! If you are doing landscape/nature photography and don't have one of these then you are missing something. Because digital cameras have a compressed tonal range (you can't capture as many f.stops of llight as film could)you need some help making the sky blue. This filter is the best thing for that. Better then polarizing, better than Photoshop, an much-much-much better than no filter at all. Don't have one - get one, you'll be happy you did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Just received. Works as advertised. Not at all difficult, though alignment is not precise so take several shots. Seems to work best if you meter the bottom (unshaded) portion and then set exposure manually to that. I'm using it with the wide-angle filter holder, which holds only one filter but is very flat and compact. With different adapter rings, the same filter works for all my lenses, but the filter, holder, and adapter ring (you need all 3) definitely take more camera bag space and take more setup time than simple screw-in filters. But screw-in filters don't work for this application, since you need to adjust the depth and angle of the graduated ND shading. Since there's no perimeter ring, need to be careful about fingerprints. Never had a plastic filter; a little concerned about future scratching. Bottom line: no hesitations. Works as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best I've used This is not cheap (read: inexpensive), but in my opinion, this 2-stop GND for the Cokin holder (P) by Singh-Ray far and away exceeds the optical quality and overall robustness of other units I've tried, including the Cokin version. If you're serious about compressing the light within a scene with the use of GND filters, this unit will be a very valuable addition to your filter collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use filter I purchased this filter in order to have just one filter for various lenses. It is a nice size, making it easy to handle with the ability to shift it to gain optimal advantage. The change is subtle and there have been no visible lines in my photographs as to what part has been darkened. And, it comes in a nice leather case that protects it when not in use. I am very pleased with this filter.
