Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 P Overview

  • 1Description

Characterized by its especially thin pancake profile, the Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 P from Voigtlander is an ultra-wide prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Its slim stature makes it ideal for everyday walk-around use, and the expansive field of view is well-suited to architectural and interior subjects. The manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.6' away, and a removable lens hood is included to shield the front lens element to minimize flare and ghosting.

Slim, 1"-thick pancake profile makes this lens especially inconspicuous and portable.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 1.6', and it is rangefinder coupled for accurate focusing to 2.3'.
Removable lens hood helps to prevent lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strongly lit conditions.

    Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 P Reviews

    Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 P Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from WAY BETTER THAN EXPECTED I bought this lens for my M9 with some trepidation. I have read reviews online saying that you should only use it on film Leicas and not on an M9 because it produces a magenta shift in the corners due to the rear of the lens being too close to the sensor. Anyway, I bought it because I cannot afford a genuine Leica 21mm at this time. Well, to my surprise there is NO magenta cast either on my m9 or my Sony A6000. Also, I compared pictures taken with this lens on my M9 with pictures taken with my A6000 and the Zeiss Touit 12mm lens (18mm equivalent) and the Voightlander lens is FAR SHARPER than the Zeiss lens. The focusing doesn't have the same feel as a Leica lens, but all in all a fabulous lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent small 21mm lens I use this lens with the voigtlander vm close-focus adapter on my Sony a7. There is NO fringing or vignetting even wide open. I love using this lens for waterfalls and general street work. I also use it to photograph flowers using the close focus helicoid on the adapter. I am beginning to think that my all around lens, which used to be my 35mm Summicrom for my Leica has now become 21mm. Using this lens on M and setting the right hand function button so that the enlarged manual focus is in all the time it a great time saver. For my particular taste, I set the brightness to +1 and just leave it at that. This lens is truly sharp and a joy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little lens I have this lens for a few months and currently it is my favorite lens. I use it on Sony NEX cameras for general photography, street photography and landscape. It is very small and very well built. Operation is a bit different from other manual lenses but still good.Sharpness is good even wide open but i have sharper prime lenses. Colors are cool and need warming up in many cases. This lens is very prone to flare and you have to be careful when light is in front of you.Contrast and out of focus rendering are FANTASTIC and they are the main reasons i love this tiny lens so much.On the NEX7 this lens is unusable due to strong color shift and smearing in the edges. But on the NEX6 it is simply great. I don't want to take it off !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice lens I am using this lens with Leica M to NEX adaptor for NEX-5N. It is very compact and solid and smooth operation. It is my favourite lens for street photography. It is very sharp and lines are straight even at this wide angle (NEX-5N has an ASPC sensor, so actual focal length for this lens is 31.5mm). Colours are nicely saturated and nice dynamic range and tone for black and white photography. For aperture and focus controls, even though lens is so small, it has knobs for them. Therefore, you can do one hand operation without checking the potion of them and keep tracking your objective. However, since this lens operate so easily, if you kept a camera in your pocket, aperture setting was often changed during changing locations. Overall, if you are looking for a lens in compact size and producing good images, I highly recommend this lens for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens This is the second time I buy this lense. The first time I was using it was with a film range finder. I bought this to use with my Sony A7, because I'm allready using a Voightlander 50mm f1.1. This lens was a great way to get a small light weight wide angle lense. It is very sharp and works fine, however you should know that with the A7 you will not only get vignetting but a purple coloring at the area of vignetting. I usally can get rid of it in camera raw but noy always compleatly. This is not an issue for black and white but if you want color photos and are not able to go into camera raw to fix it this may not be the lens for you if you are going to use it with a Sony A7. For me it's a problem I am willing to deal with for the sake of using this lens. I have provided two images so you can see the purple color before and after camera raw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again and again It is a fantastic wide-angle lens.Has rather small weight and the size, using with R4m, with ease is located in a jacket pocket.Sharpness remarkable on an open diaphragm. Not to catch hares))), I recommend to get lens hood.In the lens name Color-Skopar there is a direct hint on colour, photographing on a coloured film, it turns out to render that colour which exists, without lies.Black and white, certainly is classics, but here much depends on the chosen type of a film and proattendance process, however as well as in the colour. The unique possible minus when darkly, also there is no flash - is probably a small diaphragm of a lens.If diaphragm was 2.0 then it was invaluable... , well, the price has increased certainly)))... Though for dark conditions of shooting always there is a support or iso3200.Regards!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands down best deal of the M-Mounts Such a teensy weensy little lens, perfect for my style of Gilden-esque photography. I shoot at f/11 or f/16 with this lens (which is equivalent to a 28mm on my M8) and hold a radio triggered flash in my hand. The DOF gets everything in focus and never miss a shot. It's crisp, it's clear, it does the job. I have ZERO complaints with this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for use with the LEICA M8. This lens can preferably be used with the LEICA M8 with the result of a 28 mm lens. It is a remarkable lens. I would say one of the best I have come across since I started my LEICA-career in the fifties.

Can I use this lens with Canon or micro 4/3?

Can I use this lens with Canon or micro 4/3?
    Asked by: Kiri
The Voigtlander Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 P Lens, B&H # VO2140M, is designed for use on cameras with the Leica M-mount lens mount. We have no lens adapter that is designed to allow you to connect a Leica M-mount lens onto a Canon EF lens mount. However, the Panasonic DMW-MA2M Leica M Mount Adapter for Leica Lenses and Lumix G Micro System Cameras, B&H # PADMWMA2M, the Metabones Leica M Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera Mount Adapter (Black), B&H # MELMM43BT2, or the FotodioX Leica M Pro Lens Adapter for Micro Four Thirds Cameras, B&H # FOPMFTALM, would allow you to connect the above lens to the Micro Four Thirds lens mount.

    question

Which adapter would I need for a Fuji X-t1 ?
    Asked by: Anonymous
You can use this Metabones adapter to mount Leica M and Voigtlander VM lenses to your Fuji mirrorless camera. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/X0chaUAlthough the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm (AE metering), or other auto functions are not retained using this adapter.

    question

Does this fit on a Bessamatic? I.e., is the Bessamatic a Leica M mount?
    Asked by: Doug H.
Its an m mount lens and the bessamatic appears not to be. Looks like Fotodiox makes an adapter for bessamatic lenses on m mount bodies, but I couldnt see anything for the opposite. Might need more research.
