Celestron Omni XLT 120 overview

  • 1Description

With its large aperture and respectable focal length, the Celestron Omni XLT 120mm f/8.3 EQ Refractor Telescope is an ideal choice for making detailed observations of the Moon and planets, with the capability to split binary stars and separate star clusters, and resolve galaxies and nebulae. Its fairly fast focal ratio gives it the ability to achieve high magnifications with the addition of optional eyepieces, and thanks to its large 2" focuser the available options are nearly limitless. The larger drawtube also helps to prevent vignetting when using wide-field eyepieces during observation sessions, or when using large imaging-sensor cameras for astrophotography. To allow the use of the included 1.25" eyepiece and diagonal, a reducer adapter is included and installs easily without tools. The scope comes with the manual CG-4 equatorial mount outfitted with steel worm gears on both axes for smooth tracking and stability with two counterweights for proper balancing to ensure smooth movement. Also included is a heavy-duty stainless steel tripod to provide a sturdy and steady platform.

    Celestron Omni XLT 120 reviews

Omni XLT 120mm f/8.3 EQ Refractor Telescope is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from impressive size and quality This product was ordered online, and,as always with B&H, everything went smoothly with the scope arriving as promised. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the scope, eq. tripod, and eyepieces. Everything went together with no problems. In use, being new to an equitorial mount, there is a learning curve that I hadn't anticipated. However, what I have learned is that this set up is great for folks at my amateur level. The views through the supplied Meade eyepiece are exceptional. The tripod works well only roughly pointed north and enables slow tracking of planets with little effort. Overall this is an exceptional value that I will use for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Scope This is a beautiful scope. Fit & Finish. Nice attention to detail. I especially like the slightly larger focus knobs. Beautiful images & really good all around scope. Enough aperture, yet still somewhat portable in weight. The CG-4 mount has no problem with the weight & I even have a 50mm Celestron go-scope piggybacking it. (Probably wouldn't suggest to much more than that). It is a little larger than appearing in the pictures. This is a long tube, so keep this in mind when looking for cases/bags etc. HIGHLY recommend! B&H - Always a pleasure. Great company to do business with. Thanks guys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice For the money, its a great scope. I'm retired and on limited income or I would have went with the Omni 150 but I get good views and photos of the Moon with the 120 regardless of the City sky. Heavy mount. Knowing what I know now I would order some of Celestron's X-CEL LX lenses with it, like the 9mm or 7mm. I ordered the Celestron eyepiece kit with it and their OK but I also ordered an X-CEL 9mm as well. The viewing is much better with the X-CEL. I'm in a light polluted area and I hope that soon I can get to a rural area to appreciate this scope even morel The included photo will show what it can do. It was taken in prime mode, meaning the camera was the rear lens and no eyepiece was used,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from solid performer but big and heavy Celestron delivers on this product. Solid built quality, sharp optics and sturdy mount. Great value. Just be aware that it is bigger than it looks in photo and pretty heavy. Just looking at photo and reading descriptions I somehow decided that it could serve as grab-and-go scope. Not even close. Heck I did not have enough elbow room to operate it on my 10x10 ft balcony. Side by side it gives better image quality than 120mm short tubes, but since I was looking for compact and portable I had to return it. I would recommend it to a friend but not as portable telescope.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from omni xlt 120 not a bad scope for the money, optics are nice, great views of dso's planets and moon. there is a little CA on brighter objects but i dont find it bothersome. the tripod and eq mount are pretty solid and smooth but this is my first refractor comming from a dob.I really like how portable this scope is, set up is a breeze. Cons on this scope would be the focuser, works a little stiff and hard to get focused at high mag. other than that I like the scope and having lots of fun with it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value for the price Easy to assemble. Very sharp image. Appears well contructed. 2 focuser allows for a variety of accessories. With a couple of accessory items was easy to mount digital camera. Only downside was focuser could have used a fine focus control. For visual observation it is okay but for astro photography is more of a challenge to get it at optimum. It can be done with effort

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great overall telescope This scope has provided some great views of the moon and surrounding stars. I have only had it for about 2 week and all I can say is wow. I would highly recommend this telescope to anyone looking to purchase one. B&H was very accommodating and the shipping was fast. I would recommend grabbing some celestron x cel eyepieces as well as a 2x Barlow. You will be amazed at what you can see that you've never noticed before. Great for city and country viewing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice scope Hassle free purchase from B&H. Received on time and shipped with care. The scope is solid and only having brought it out for a quick peek, was able to see jupiter and four of its moons cyrstal clear, Orions nebulae was easily seen and amazing ( using the 25 mm eyepiece that came with scope). Good purchase in my opinion.
