Mackie MCU Pro Overview

The Mackie MCU Pro is a 9-fader (eight channels plus one master) USB/MIDI control surface that provides mixing, editing, automation, and navigational control for any supported digital audio workstation. It supports Mackie Control, HUI, and Logic Control modes to allow it to communicate with various software applications. Connect the MCU Pro to your computer via USB or MIDI.

Each of the eight channel strips includes a touch-sensitive 100mm Alps motorized fader in addition to mute, solo, and record arming buttons. Also included is a signal LED, a channel select button, and a V-Pot that can be used to control panning, send levels, EQ, dynamics, and other DSP plug-in modules. The control surface also contains a full automation assignment section, edit buttons, undo, redo, and save buttons, and a Shift modifier that offers dual functionality for specific commands.

Navigational control is provided in a tape-style transport with a jog/shuttle wheel, loop in/out points, and timeline quick jump buttons. The unit works seamlessly with most music software programs, and DAW-specific Lexan overlays that fit right over the master section can be used to personalize the control surface.

The MCU Pro features a download of ProTools | First and Waveform software and The Musician's Collection plug-in package including 23 high-quality plugins with BBD Delay, Level Lite, 304E EQ, and 304C Compressor. To authorize the software, simply input the mixer's serial number on the website.

Mackie MCU Pro Reviews

A must have!!

I have to admit that I was a little worried about investing in a control surface with all of the many choices that are available. I missed out on the C24 and finally came to the point of seriously needing a trusted control surface to help my work flow in my home studio. Mackie is the brand that we all know plus I have owned several of the old analog boards throughout my journey. Pro Tools and UAD hardware are my tools of choice. The MCU Pro solved my tracking and mixing needs and is the perfect bridge to my creativity. It requires a learning curve at first but once you get to know the controller and how it works it is an invaluable tool. 100 percent satisfied with my choice and financial investment for my studio. Definitely wish I had done this sooner.

Goodbye Avid Control Surface

When Avid dropped support of their C24 and Control 24 the units were worthless overnight. So was the furniture that housed it. I decided to drop Avid hardware completely. I checked out an MCU Pro V3.0 about a year ago and hated the feel of the faders. I think at the time they used P&G. The updated 4.0.3 MCU Pro now has Alps faders which are every bit as smooth as sensitive as the Avid/Focusrite faders and the unit is clearly sturdier than Avid Artist Mix. ProTools 11 setup takes literally a few moments. It AMAZES me how Avid drops support for their own hardware, but continues support for third-party hardware. MCU also integrates perfectly with Studio One 3, my new production DAW. This unit is a winner. DON'T BUY USED. The older ones (V3.0) have resistant, noisy faders which can't be swapped. Avid forced me to change my style of production - for the better. Thank you, Avid, for encouraging me to shop elsewhere.

No, this controller will not work with DaVinci Resolve. This is a controller for DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), not video.

Asked by: Stephen
Yes, the Mackie MCU Pro Expandable USB/MIDI Control Surface can be used as a control surface for Fairlight, however we recommend an option such as BH #BLFDC Blackmagic Design Fairlight Desktop Console USB Control Surface for the best functionality in this scenario: https://bhpho.to/33zWnLw

Is there a specified foot controller for this? ...

Is there a specified foot controller for this? What functions does a foot controller operate?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is aplicable to Logic Pro: You can connect a momentary foot pedal—with either positive or negative polarity—to the foot switch sockets. By default, foot switches control the outlined functions: USER SWITCH A is assigned to Start/Stop. USER SWITCH B is assigned to Record. (Note that a track must be selected and armed for recording to take place.) EXTERNAL CONTROL is assigned to the MASTER fader level. Use only an expression pedal with this socket. The polarity of the foot switches is determined by the Mackie Control when powered up. You should first connect the foot switches, then turn on the Mackie Control.
