Pentax PF-65ED II overview

  • 1Description

The Pentax PF-65ED II Scope Body is designed for high-precision outdoor viewing. It has been improved over its predecessor by further minimizing color aberrations, resulting in truer colors.

These scopes use 1.25" diameter eyepieces, which allow less compacting of the light shaft produced by the objective lens and thus a larger image with superior depth perception. This is a great feature, for in addition to the brilliant offerings from Pentax themselves it also means you can use the best of astronomy eyepieces from elite telescope manufacturers such as Meade, Celestron and of course the venerable Tele Vues. The PF-65ED II has a focal length of 390mm, so if you're using conventional 1.25" eyepieces you divide 390mm by the focal length of your eyepiece to determine the effective magnification. Pentax ED scopes function brilliantly in many conditions of light and climate, and are remarkably light thanks to their metallic alloy housing.

Pentax's scopes are available in either a straight viewing or angled viewing depending upon your needs. This is a personal preference which, cannot easily be defined for you until firsthand experience, but the conventional thinking is that the scopes with straight viewing are simpler for locating your subject.

Porro prism design with Pentax's trademark Super MultiCoated optics
JIS Class 6 waterproof & fogproof construction
American standard 1.25" (31.7mm) thread diameter allows use of many telescope eyepieces
Rotating tripod collar with detented click stops
Retractable lenshood
Accepts 67mm filters

    Pentax PF-65ED II reviews

PF-65ED II 2.6"/65mm Spotting Scope (Requires Eyepiece) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for. I was looking for a quality spotting scope that offered some flexibility with lense options for economy but has the quality of a higher end scope. The pentax scope had good reviews all over the web and B&H offered the best price and included a tripod. If you're looking for good value you found it. For those looking for a zoom eyepiece for $60. you can get a Meade 8-24mm zoom 7-element / 4-group lense for this scope. That's value added without spending $200-300 on the pentax zoom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent spotter! I looked at many reviews trying to decide what spotting scope would best fit my needs and that would also possibly work for astronomy purposes hence the 1.25 eyepiece interchangeability. I obtained a Vixen NLV 8-24mm zoom and WOW, this scope surprised me with the clarity and brightness. Unfortunately, I now need some quality fixed eyepieces and a good telescope! Gotta love it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent scope This spotting scope ranks high with several other bloggers and advanced birders. Once it was delivered, I mounted it on a tripod and spent the afternoon bird watching. With Pentax eyepieces, this scope will outperform all other scopes in the 60-65mm class. You can see individual details of feathers on birds you never saw before.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PF-65ED pentax spotting scope I bought this scope for birding exclusively. It produces crisp and clear images with excellent color fidelity. It is compact and light weight and I like the fact you can use standard 1.25 inch eyepieces of your choosing. I even like the ring/eyepiece tightener in this scope as well.
