    Slik U212 reviews

U212 Deluxe Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1 Tuff & Versatile Tripod I purchased my U-212 in 1986 & nearly 25 years later it's still a top performer. Soon after purchase, I did testing on the leg section & concluded that it will safely support 28 Lbs. (With legs fully extended). Because the original head is what limits it to 5.5 Lbs.rating, I replaced it with a Manfrotto 229 Super Pro Head (26.5 Lbs. capacity) turning it into a SUPER Tripod & ever since it's been my out-of-studio/on location Tripod. Due to its unique design/individual leg adjustment, it is the most versatile Tripod I've found.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical - Portable - Affordable I like the weight of this tripod, it's not to heavy to carry, and it's not to light to be unsteady. Thus this isn't a flaky tripod. The only con I found was that the 360 degree panorama dial moves when you turn the camera. But that's not really a con, since we should be looking at the pictures we take: there is no such thing is as mathematically precise panorama. Thus that is a somewhat useless feature, but still cool to have. Overall; I enjoy the product. It's supports my 5D Mark II with an EF 24-70mm f2.8 canon lens (all together my heaviest setup)! It's stable, and it doesn't seem like it'll ever fall apart on us. My photography accreditation is located at

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm still using the one I bought in the early 80s I bought this at VanTuil photo in Erie PA in about 1983 to use with my Canon F1n cameras. 30 some years later it is still my daily use tripod. The only drawbacks are 1. it is too light for my 600mm lens, no surprise there and 2. the head mounting apparatus allows the camera to slip down in portrait mode. (a little duct tape helped with that) Since Slik fixed that with a better mounting system I have been trying to talk myself into buying a new one, but I am really attached to this one. I mount the camera on the Slik 90% of the time and it has never, ever failed me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it to death! I've had one of these gems for over 25 years, and it has never let me down. It has traveled high and low (mountain tops, deserts, beaches, sports events, weddings and portraits). You can't go wrong with a SLIKU212. I gotta say too B&H is the greatest. I researched like a madman and found them to have the highest marks for quality, dependability and time service. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Steven A

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Timeless Workhorse I bought my U212 in 1982 and still use it on a regular basis. I have purchased multiple tripods over the years, different heads, different materials.. At yet, I still love this tripod for the following reasons: 1. It can be positioned for almost all situations including mounting the camera top side down at the bottom. 2. It is very precise and can hold a heavy lens in position very easily. 3. It is very strong, at least my 1982 version. Other than the rubber clue lost stickiness, mine doesn't even have a dent or scratch on it after 35 years of usage. it is heavier than my other tripods, so I no longer travel with it. If you are looking for a solid, get the work done tripod, this is one of them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tripod This is an awesome tripod for shooting studio portraits, landscapes, and macro. It is sturdy and has an L-bracket on the head (I wasn't expecting that). There is a bubble level under the head position the tripod level, but the only way to tell if the horizon is level is to check the notches on the side dial and through the viewfinder. I really liked the height without having to telescope the center column. I am 5'7 and it is almost eye level when the legs are fully extended. Only downside for me is the quick release doesn't latch on the first try every time, so be careful when placing the camera back on the head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb tripod I purchased this to replace my original U212 that was over 20 years old. I love the enhancements to the design and would give this 5 stars, except that Slik cheapened the pan head design by using a plastic locking lever instead of the metal one my older unit had to keep the camera locked down. Everything else is great. The plastic lever works, but, why not keep the metal one? Another minor downside is the level bubble on the pan head is smaller than the one on my original. It's more of a challenge to quick check due to size. Still, this are minor grievances.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work-Horse that works every time I have owned this unit also for 25+ years and it would be going strong if my youngest hadn't lost pieces. Just ordered another u212 and hope to use it until it is passed on to son.
