    Smith-Victor 720SG reviews

720SG 1000W Quartz Focusing Light is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Prodcut I own three of these instruments and I use them for still photography and some video applications. They're powerful, directional, and (unlike what's listed @) it's dual voltage. They use 600 watt FCB (120V) and FEA (220V) and 1000 watt DXW, DXN (120V), P235 (220V) lamps. All lamps can be focused from 40-34 degrees and the focusing action is smooth. They don't have the accessory pool like the Arri, Desisti, and Lowel 1000 Watt instruments but you might find some universal items that work. I've used them with umbrellas and Westcott's 45 Halo and they produce nice and soft light. They run hot so use gloves when touching the fixture or wait for it to cool. For photo applications I've found their sweet spot to be between 4 and 6 feet. I'm thoroughly enjoying these powerful fixtures.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice light for the dollar Throughs a very nice soft light. However, this the second light I purchased like this. I did it to have a back up. The day before a live broadcast the original light went out. The wiring coming from the wall socket is too small to handle the load of a 1000 wat light. Where it connects to the fixture the wire melted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Light The light is used for live production and studio recording. It puts out a very nice and wide soft light. However, I have had these lights fry the wiring connections inside. The reason is the extension wire is too small for the load of the light. I repair them with a heavier cable and everything works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does it for me. If you need a 1k for cheap, this does the trick. Only downfalls are that, I had to modify the tilt clamp so it stopped falling on my hand. Wasn't difficult to do, just a trip to the hardware store. But, hey, it's cheaper than an arri.
