    Smith-Victor A10UL reviews

    A10UL 10" Adapta-Light (120V) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Value, Iffy Mount These lights are great. The cords are pretty darn long. The reflectors are durable. The inner metallic coating can be damaged by other metal objects, but it's not hard to avoid that kind of damage. Great value for the money. The 10 inch reflector is big enough to soften light a bit, but small enough to still be pretty portable. The mounting bracket is tricky to put together, but not too bad. It mounts to the reflector, not the light fixture. So it can get pretty hot if you're using hot lights. The fixture screws into the back of the reflector. The handle doesn't get hot.The mounting bracket, umbrella mount thing is not super secure. It will not support a big, heavy umbrella. Using smaller umbrellas kind of defeats the purpose with a 10 reflector. So if you're deadset on using umbrellas, get a smaller reflector. An umbrella cannot be used with the reflector off because the bracket attaches to the reflector.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent light, for the price I got this product as my first light for a light kit I'm hoping to build over the next couple of years, and so far I'm impressed with the quality of the light considering the cost and simplicity. It's relatively easy to assemble, and although it does not mention it in the description, this does come with am umbrella mount that allows an umbrella to be inserted through a hole in the reflector. The handle is also a nice feature unique to the Adaptalight (at least among SV lights) since it keeps your hands away from the hot elements (which DO get hot). My only real disappointment with this light is that you're limited to cheap tungsten bulbs. I purchased a couple fluorescent lamps in the hopes of having a cooler and less-likely-to-burst option when lighting close up, but the reflector closes in where the socket screws in, meaning bulkier fluorescents can't fit in. That said, for such a low price, you can't really complain about something that's not a normal feature (although I may try to find smaller fluorescents in order to keep the heat down in the future). Overall a nice light for the price, great for film/art students or independent photographers or filmmakers on a budget.
