Leica C-LUX 2 overview

  • 1Description

The Leica C-LUX 2 Digital Camera features a classic slim-line design that is unmistakably Leica. Although the camera is small enough to fit in the smallest pocket, it incorporates a beautifully sharp and large 2.5" color LCD display. The display also provides wide-angle viewing to easily share your images and a live histogram feature to confirm exposure while shooting.

The 7.2 megapixel CCD sensor enables you to produce superlative prints - even up to poster size. The fully retractable Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Aspherical lens provides a wide focal length range of 28mm - 100mm in 35mm format. An integrated image stabilizer (O.I.S), the C-LUX 2, effectively prevents blurred photos no matter what the photographic situation is, by consistently compensating for small hand movements. This combined with the high-sensitivity mode (up to ISO 3200) ensures that pictures are always sharply defined - whether shooting during twilight, indoors, under candlelight or in situations where using a flash is not possible.

The C-LUX 2 offers very short shutter lag, and a generous selection of shooting modes including a number of very useful scene modes to suit different photographic situations. This gives the photographer flexibility, which he will find necessary to take successful pictures, regardless of the subject, lighting or other shooting conditions.

7.2 Megapixel Resolution
With a resolution of 7.2 Megapixels, you'll be able to produce high resolution images that can yield photo quality 16 x 20" prints. Together with the advanced electronics and in-camera software the C-LUX 2 produces images with natural color rendering, excellent definition and high brilliance.
Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens
The powerful Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens consists of seven elements (four of which are aspherical) in six groups. With a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a wide focal length range of 28mm to 100mm in 35mm format, the C-LUX 2 is well suited to shooting all kinds of subjects such as interior shots or group photos.
Optical Image Stabilizer
The C-LUX 2 produces exquisitely sharp photos even when shooting under candlelight or when shooting moving objects thanks to the built-in optical image stabilizer and the high-sensitivity setting of up to ISO 3200.
Striking Compact Design
The striking design, and clearly arranged controls gives the camera the timeless elegance typical of a Leica camera, and makes operation simple and intuitive. Furthermore, the ultra compact dimensions of the C-LUX 2 means that it easily fits into any bag or pocket and is therefore the ideal companion for everyday use, leisure pursuits, travel or any other occasion.
Durable and Ergonomic Construction
The all metal body with slightly rounded sides along with great attention to small details ensures a reliable and robust camera that is comfortable to handle.
Superb Performance
Thanks to its extremely short shutter delay and precise autofocus, The C-LUX 2 can be relied upon to capture spur-of-the-moment snapshots; and the powerful battery provides power for up to 300 photos on a charge for carefree photography.
Three Picture Formats
Choose from three picture formats - 16:9, 3:2, or 4:3 - of which the 16:9 format is HDTV-ready for viewing.
2.5" Color LCD Display
The 2.5" High resolution LCD display features a resolution of 207,000 pixels, and gives a brilliant preview of the photograph, allowing accurate assessment before and after it is taken. The large monitor also enables several people to look at the image together, and the view of the display is just as good from just about any angle thanks to the wide-angle viewing capability of the display.
Optional Televid Scope Adapter
The optional Digital Adapter 2 makes the camera capable of producing fantastic nature photographs through a Leica Televid series spotting scope.
Direct Print Capable
Print directly to any PictBridge Capable Printer without a computer, and the on camera image editing features assure that you be able to make just the right picture easily and quickly.

    Leica C-LUX 2 reviews

C-LUX 2 Digital Camera (Silver) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from For intended purposes-----awesome I have had this SMALL size camera for only a short while, but in that time I have I have been sold. I carry the camera with me all the time. I usually wear it's case on my hip bag: cell phone, pen, paper, etc. When I purchased the camera from B&H I bought the small kit which included a LowePro case. This case has a small pocket that holds in their respective cases: extra Leica battery and sandisk card. I added a quality shield for the LCD. This is my general grab all when ever shots. I own a Canon 40D for my serious shooting but my little Leica is there if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best point-and-shoot on the market I owned a C-LUX 1 which I regrettably lost on a vacation and my girlfriend replaced it with a C-LUX 2. It was one of the best gifts I've received in my life. This camera takes magnificent pictures which become marvelous prints at sizes comparable to the $10,000 Canon DSLR that my boss owns. The colors are vibrant, low-light and fast-action photos are both well within the capabilities of the camera and the ease of use is second to none. I would highly, highly recommend this camera to anyone in the market.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just about perfect! The bottom line is the quality of the pictures - and this camera makes it easy. Starting with the Dial Display setting so you don't have to try to read the little wheel on the top - instead, big icons are displayed on the screen. I like the very portable battery charger that came with the camera so much that I returned the extra A/C adapter I ordered. Nothing, however, can be totally perfect. I really like having a viewfinder too, but this camera does not have one. Also, it is so tiny - and my hands are so big - I keep accidentally hitting the Menu/Set button. A better thumb rest would help a lot. These seem to be the only trade-offs for the compactness, and I can live with that. It was on the high end of my price range, but I do believe you get what you pay for. On our recent family vacation, when you compare the pictures from the four different cameras that were on the trip, this C-Lux 2 produced the best photos whether it was scenery, night shots, indoors, close-up, etc. - regardless of whether it was me, the kids, my parents or a waiter taking the shots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits in my pocket! I have had this C-Lux2 14 months now and very much enjoy it. Occasionally I am tempted by a full DSLR, but then I think of the pictures it produces AND the fact that I can store it happily in my breast pocket all day. A fantstic little camera!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Little Camera I was decideding between this camera and the Leica D-Lux 3, and I chose this one because it seemed a little more practical for point-and-shoot situations. My only reservation was hat I was going to be hamstrung by having almost no manual controls. Boy, I'm glad I went with the C-Lux 2! The presets are fantastic and delivered great shots for me. The shuttle lag wasn't nearly as bad as I assumed it would be on such a small camera, and even in low-light situations, it has out-performed my expectations. Not to mention the great lens. Oh yeah, it's REALLY good looking, too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Camera Great purchase. First of all, I loved the desing of the camera, but that is a matter of taste. Nonetheless, the camera comes with many features that fit users ranging from hobbyists to enthusiasts. However, the user interface is not as friendly as it could be for a Leica product. I would recommend this camera to friends and family, as long as they want to invest a little bit of extra money for a well desing camera. For a 7 Mpixel-camera, the price is a little high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leica C-LUX-2 The camera is great with many features. It takes a little time to go through the instructions, but they are well written. The only problem that I have experienced is with the Leica leather case. First it is not worth the money, and when the camera is put in the case, if not very careful it will hit the on off switch and turn it on. Problems Encountered: As noted above. Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Konica Minolta Items I Recommend: Generic case, 1GB card
