Smith-Victor DP12 overview

  • 1Description

This is a 12" diameter, hard Plexiglas diffuser that snaps onto the front of any light fixture that has a 12" parabolic reflector. Three retractable metal clasps make it possible. The space between the reflector and the diffuser allows heat from the light to escape.

Recommended maximum wattage: 500 Watts.

Smith-Victor DP12 reviews

DP12 Clip On Diffuser For 12" Lights is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not great, but sort of does the job Extended use will cause diffusion screen to burn in center, leaving a ugly brown cicle from bulb. You could probally drop the wattage to 100w or 250w to prevent this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Soft Smooth Light Diffusers are very helpful to even out the light, much better, typically, than using just the straight (harsh) light directly from the light bulb. I use my reflectors to copy/photograph artwork and other items - wouldn't work without them. They will age over time so be prepared to order new ones every several years or so - depending on how often you use them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Soft filter I pop these babies on my Impact monolight kit with the 12 reflectors, and it makes their harsh glow much more subtle. It also isn't as bright for the actors' eyes which is also good. However not a 5 because too many hours with a 500 watt and they get a not too noticeable burnt out mark in the middle... I'd suggest 250 watts for this guy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for SV PL's This item is a must have for SV PL's It softens the light with only a one stop and is great when more light is needed then an umbrella would provide. It is easy to attach and durable. I highly recommend it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Soften your light We have five Smith-Victor 12 floods on Smith-Victor adjustable light stands. All five assemblies are used in an art studio for photographing sculptures. Without the clip-on diffusers, we were forever battling hot spots requiring all types of manuevering and re-positioning of the five light stands to remove these unwanted light characteristics. These diffusers clip-on perfectly and with ease. The quality of the plastic is very good. The four metal clips are very basic (there are four - not three), however they work fine. The 1 space they create between the flood fixture and the plastic diffuser is superb for heat release. The fit is not perfect (the plastic diffuser loses its perfect circular shape) when clipped onto the fixture. However, it still covers the entire 12 opening, the light is softer, and considerably wider in its coverage. We are very pleased with their performance results. My wife uses one stand/fixture/diffuser combination regularly when she is sculpting. She uses 5500K daylight bulbs. These diffusers are terrrific. We would not hesitate to purchase them again. Highly recommended. I have no reason to doubt that these will last for years and years.
