    Savage M31500 reviews

Variable Power 3 Quartz Light Kit (120VAC) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Budget Lighting Kit I am using these lights for a homemade video studio. These lights are nice and bright. They do give off a lot of heat but I expect that from 1000 watt bulbs. The softboxes were tricky to assemble at first but now that I know how they work, I have no worries about disassembling them as needed. The key is in the one softbox wire with a ball on it. It is the last one you use to create the square. About the only criticism I have about these lights is that the lighting cover for the softboxes are made smaller than the lights. Not really a big deal however. This is an excellent lighting kit for the price. I would highly recommend it. At full power they give off wonderful, even white light.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Savage Variable Power 3 Flood Light Kit I use this kit as a three fill lights for a green screen room at work. They do a good job of filling and back-lighting. It is very easy to assemble and has a decent carry bag. If you need to ship it, I'd make sure to take the bulbs out from the lights, plus ship the whole setup in a hard case of some kind...if not you'll probably have a lot of broken pieces. Overall a pretty good light set up for the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great For the Money I gave it 4 stars because it seems to be a little less than versatile. If you're going to want hard light AND soft light in one kit while being able to keep the light from shooting everywhere, this probably isn't your kit. Of course, if you find one for this price that'll do both well then let me know. It's a softbox kit and you don't have many options outside of that. You can get the light a little harder by losing the diffusion from the box but I don't think you could use a gobo or cucaloris with one of the lights and expect decent results. The reflecting surface behind the bulb isn't so much a concave mirror as it is flat brushed steel so it really bounces the light everywhere. There's really no housing for the bulb in the fixture. It just sticks off the front. So you have to take it out before you pack it up. That's kind of a negative, but they cool down pretty quick for as hot as they get. And since they stick off the front, you need to be that much more careful when affixing the softbox. I thought the softboxes were easier to put together than Chimera brand. The stands do what they're supposed to do. The lights themselves make noise. Like an EEEEEEEEEE that gets louder the dimmer you go. If you're taking photos, not a problem. Video: a boom mic would likely be sensitive to it but you could probably get away with a lav or camera mic depending on the proximity of the light to the mic. The case is great and the whole kit is really light when it's all packed up. There's even a little room to spare for my C47's. Bottom line, if you need a softbox kit for photography and you don't have or want to spend a lot of money, this is the one you want.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for a starter kit This kit is perfect for many many uses. It takes me about 20 min to set up each time I take it on location. Perfect for a stationary studio setting. I would highly recommend this set up. And love the free Savage roll of seamless paper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again for sure! We used these lights for some testimonials in one of our new studios today, and were extremly pleased with the results! The lighting was even, the flesh tones were perfect - and we couldn't have been more satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite Impressive Before buying these lights I had the worst experience buying lights that were affordable. I had almost given up hope until I tried this lighting kit. I could not be more pleased with this product. I read people would have problems with the soft-box assembly, however if you have experience with lighting equipment it is actually quite simple. The quality of this light is very good for the price you pay and I would recommend this kit to other professionals trying to cut their costs a bit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price Use this kit mainly for indoor portrait photography. I like the kit- it does what I need it to do. It produces wonderfully even, diffused light. The dimming feature is great, since I shoot in a small room and heat can become a major problem. But, it's nice to know that if I ever move to a larger space, I have the extra power to work with. Only problems: The soft boxes were a little difficult to assemble, so I don't think I'll ever be breaking them down, which is a shame because it comes with a nice travel bag (no wheels, though). Kit does not come with assembly instructions. If you look it up on YouTube, a great instruction video will come up. The dimmer on one of the three lights stopped working after I first used it. But it comes with a 1-year warranty, so I expect to put that to good use.
