Photoflex StarFlash 650 overview

  • 1Description

The SB-SF650 Photoflex StarFlash 650 Watt/Second Monolight is suitable for the professional, as well as the aspiring photographer. The StarFlash uses a high-quality German flash tube. The modeling light can be set at full brightness or proportional to the flash tube light output.

This strobe can be used with a reflector, umbrella, or softbox. The included Tilt Swivel Mount is secure and allows for tilt range of 170°. The Tilt Swivel can be repositioned on the StarFlash to compensate for weight imbalance when using larger soft boxes. This monolight can be fired with the included mono to PC sync cord, or via its optical slave, from another flash.

    Photoflex StarFlash 650 reviews

    StarFlash 650 W/S Monolight (120V) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value I use these and similar StarFlash units of other power ratings for portraiture. Used in many combinations with extra Large and large softboxes, reflectors, umbrellas, snoots, barn doors, etc, Compatible with Photoflex & Bowens S-type light modifiers, extending the range of available accessories. I employ a Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 transceiver with each, via simple modification of the light's mounting bracket to attach the PW. However, the built in optical slave works reliably too. I have no experience with other monolights, but I am well satisfied with these, even knowing that their output intensity is unlikely to be controllable with the Pocket Wizard Zone Controller when it becomes available.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great light! I shoot a lot of full length shots, especially dancers. I use the Starflash 650 With a Photoflex 7' Octodome mostly with grids. It's a killer set-up. You almost can't miss with it. It has a great bracket that handles the large softboxes effortlessly. It's an incredible workhorse. I also have two Starflash 300s and two AB B800s. The Starflash lights are extremely well made and have performed flawlessly. Photoflex also has great tech support. I would buy another one without hesitation!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product As Usual I have been using photoflex's monolights in the studio for 3 years now and love them. Before I was using another brand that was not reliable. These strobes never let me down whether they are used onlocation with a battery pack or in the studio. This is my second 650 and I own the 300's as well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light This is a great powerful light. I suggest buying it in a kit it will be much more beneficial getting everything at once. The recycle time isn't horrible I haven't found any issues with it.
