Sony MDR-7506 Overview

The MDR-7506 is a staple within the recording, film and live arenas. Due to its low impedance and closed-ear design, these headphones do an outstanding job of cutting down background noise while providing plenty of volume in the studio or in the field. Additionally, the closed design helps eliminate headphone bleed when overdubbing in the studio.

The MDR-7506 is an over-ear design and is ideal for use with MIDI workstations, camcorders, or other equipment with less than powerful headphone amplification. The headphone has a foldable design, making it convenient to store or transport, and its coiled cable allows it to stretch and spring back into place whenever you need a bit more reach.

Circumaural closed-back stereo headphone ideal for use in professional applications
40mm diameter drive units deliver deeper bass, lower distortion, and wider dynamic range
Neodymium magnets for maximum energy and minimum size
Compact, foldable design
Coiled cable allows for better mobility and reach, while also preventing snags from tugging the headphones right off your ears

question

Your specs say the headphones come with '1/8 stereo mini-jack, with 1/8 to 1/4 TRS phono adapter'. That should say PHONE adapter. Phono is what we know as an RCA or pin jack. Phone plug is the 1/4 or 1/8 TRS connector. It's highly unlikely Sony would provide an RCA adapter when practically all headphone jacks are phone type. Is this a typo on your part?
Asked by: Richard
Phone was referring to phone switchboards, not residential. The customer’s observations are correct and TRS cannot refer to a phono plug.

question

Is there any difference between Sony's MDR-7506 and MDR-V6, other than the plugs? Is there any subtle sound difference?
Asked by: Anonymous
MDR-V6 has Frequency Response: 5 Hz – 30 kHz and will give you a more detailed sound. Unfortunately, they were discontinued. MDR-7506 has Frequency Response: 10Hz – 20 kHz.

Asked by: stan
It may be fixable depending on where the issue is on the headphone. For a repair option, you could reach out to Pro Sound Services at 212.586.1033. However, the cost of the repair be close to the cost of a new pair anyway, in which case we recommend purchasing a new pair.

Is the 1/4" TRS phono connectivity the same as the 1/4 phono jack?
Asked by: Kelsey
When referencing the MDR-7506 with those two terms, then they are referring to the same 1/4'' TRS connection utilized with the adapter on the 7506's. Please note, a 1/4'' jack can be either TRS (stereo) or TS (mono). You would want to specify which you are referencing when choosing cables, adapters, etc.
