Sony MDR-7506 Overview

The MDR-7506 is a staple within the recording, film and live arenas. Due to its low impedance and closed-ear design, these headphones do an outstanding job of cutting down background noise while providing plenty of volume in the studio or in the field. Additionally, the closed design helps eliminate headphone bleed when overdubbing in the studio.

The MDR-7506 is an over-ear design and is ideal for use with MIDI workstations, camcorders, or other equipment with less than powerful headphone amplification. The headphone has a foldable design, making it convenient to store or transport, and its coiled cable allows it to stretch and spring back into place whenever you need a bit more reach.

My Sony headset shipped fast and in packaging that G. Thunberg would praise. Could not be more pleased. And of course the Sony MDR-7506 headset is everything, everyone says, all the time.

I've been using this Sony model for over 20 years. Never failed me! Love the folding feature so it easily fits in my camera bag. Note the cord was a bit longer than past models bu no an issue for me.

When Sound Clarity Is A Priority ...

I bought the Sony MDR-7506 to use it for video editing. I have the Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC. They sound good but even though I appreciate the modern look and design, their ear pads put an extensive pressure on my big ears and that make it hard to have it on for a long time. Their sound is good but it is slightly dull for me. The Sony MDR 7506 are lighter and their ear pads are more comfortable. The sound is good and clear. I am able to hear everything. Some YouTube reviewers say that its sound is too bright. Well, if I am editing audio I want to hear everything and this "brightness" helps and works. Do I enjoy the music using MDR 7506? Yes! And I am able to hear and understand every word. I exchange these headphones twice because the right ear pad was a bit larger than the left one. Yes, I've got two pairs with the same problem and thanks to the B&H assistance the last pair I've got yesterday is OK. The factory quality control should be improved. Even though the Sony MDR-7506 represent the 90s style design, they sound the way they should. The Sony MDR-7506 has a word "Professional" on it. Proved by time. This is not an advertisement. This is my personal opinion.

I have 7506 headphones older than my 13 year old son.

100% great headphones. I've had 6 of these over the past 20 years. I gave a pair away, had 2 pairs stolen, I tore the cable out of a pair repaired then lost them and I'm on a pair a few years young currently dressed in the 100% necessary SOFTIE covers. And just bought this pair for my son who got his 1st electric guitar at 13! Great value with fantastic performance, accurate reference, great isolation, compact, tough, AND affordable!!

Bought this for a hearing impaired relative who likes to listen to the radio. This provided good sound and and setup is simply inserting the plug into the radio's headphone jack. Coiled cord is a plus as it allows some freedom of movement and doesn't cause a tangled mess.

A Must-have!

Clear and clean audio with a nice amount of bass that doesn't drown out the rest of it. I can hear many more details than I was able to before. I wore them almost all day and no discomfort either.

I'm told that since these are 63 Ohm impedance, they require a fair amount of power to work properly. In other words, I was told to expect poor results from an iPad or iPhone. Is that correct?

Asked by: stan
It may be fixable depending on where the issue is on the headphone. For a repair option, you could reach out to Pro Sound Services at 212.586.1033. However, the cost of the repair be close to the cost of a new pair anyway, in which case we recommend purchasing a new pair.
