Audio-Technica AT875R Overview

With its smooth on-axis tone, great off-axis rejection, and straightforward operation, the Audio-Technica AT875R short shotgun microphone is well suited for budget-conscious indie films, TV shoots, nature recording, and documentary projects where simplicity and quality sound are prioritized.

The AT875R's high sensitivity allows it to perform reliably with a variety of microphone preamp classes. Its full-spectrum frequency response utilizes a gentle increase in high frequencies to enhance intelligibility and compensate for loss in clarity resulting from wind protection.

The durable housing ensures rugged dependability while maintaining a light weight that won't burden your boompole or camera, and the included accessories accommodate mounting the AT875R to a mic stand, boompole, or camera-mount microphone holder.

Quality Sound
Being less than 7" long, the AT875R is equally at home on a boompole or atop a camera. It uses an interference tube and a supercardioid polar pattern to yield focused on-axis directionality while attenuating rear-entry sound and rejecting sound at the sides. This makes the AT875R far more effective at capturing distant sources than the omnidirectional mics found in most cameras. Its 90 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response naturally reduces problematic bass frequencies from common sources such as traffic rumble and wind noise.
11 to 52 VDC Phantom Powered
With a balanced 3-pin XLR output and support for 11 to 52 VDC phantom powering, the AT875R is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.
Ideal for Boompole Mounting
The AT875R includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the AT875R in the Audio-Technica AT8415 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic. The AT875R also includes two rubber O-rings that expand the microphone's diameter to fit the larger mic holders found on many high-end cameras.
Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise
The AT875R has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. Enhanced attenuation of wind noise is possible with the addition of an optional windshield such as the Rycote 12 cm Super-Softie, which also provides high immunity to rain.

For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the separately available Rycote Windshield Kit 3, a complete windjammer, windshield, and shockmount suspension system.

Will the AT875R work on a Panasonic Lumix GH4? Does it plug directly in or do I need a pre amp?
Asked by: me
GH5 user here. This mic works well with the XLR attachment for Panasonic. I do believe it needs phantom power but not certain as it's not my main mic. As for plugging it directly into the 1/8" port on the camera I am not sure.

There is no headphone port on the mic. You would need to monitor the sound from the device you plug the mic into.

I just bought a Panasonic HC-X2000, Will this mic work well with it comparing with some expensive ones?
Asked by: craig
Yes the Audio-Technica AT875R is directly compatible with the Panasonic HC-X2000 camera and will work well with it. If you want to fit the AT875R into the shotgun mic holder on the HC-X2000, you will need B&H # SAROCS.

What is the length, in cm, of the grill so I can determine which size fuzzy windscreen? Thank you!
Asked by: Craig
Windscreens are generally measured by diameter, and the diameter of the Audio-Technica AT875R Short Shotgun Microphone is 0.83"/21 mm. B&H # AUWSS2012 would be recommended as an outdoor windscreen for this model.

What is the Optimal Pickup Range? looking to use it for interviews on set. I would have it over the talents head, out of frame
Asked by: Thomas
You should be able to place the Audio-Technica AT875R Short Shotgun Microphone about 3 to 5 feet overhead to capture clear audio, then adjust the distance to find the sweet spot, depending on how loud the people are speaking.
