Canon OC-E3 Overview

The Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord maintains all on-camera flash functions including E-TTL / E-TTL II for one Canon Speedlite used off-camera at distances up to 2'. It is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras except the EOS 630 and EOS RT which require a combination of TTL Hot Shoe Adapter 3, OA-2 Off Camera Shoe Adapter, and Connecting Cord 60.

The OC-E3 has been improved over the OC-SC 2 with better sealing against dust and moisture, to better match the weather-resistant design of the EOS 1D Mark III and the 580EX2 flash. It also now features a sturdier foot.

Also fully functional with the combination of the T90 camera and 300TL flash (from Canon's older FD manual focus system).

Breaks off at flash mount

Trivial amount of use with 600-ex-rt flash and broke off at the flash mount - when you look at the broken pieces there is only the absolute flimsiest of internal support.

Poor Designed - No support from Canon after warranty!

As a photography company we own over 100 of the Canon OC-E3 Off camera ETTL Cords and they continue to break at the Flash Mount! Over the past year approximately 50 have broken in the same place and they usually break after the warranty! I have contacted Canon as a Corporate Canon CPS member (for several years) and they said they would look into it, but so far they have not done anything about it! Too bad the aftermarket versions are made even cheaper. Please voice out your opinions to Canon directly - B&H is only compliant to there warranty items

Breaks too easily

This is the third OC-E3 cord I've used in a few years. They communicate well with my camera, but tend to separate and fall off the hotshoe, leaving my flash dangling. The construction should be more durable where the cord attaches to the flash.

I always use these w a flash bracket, the foot where the flash connects breaks, like 3 in three years, so I had to get another one

Buy only the Canon OC-E3, it will hold up better than a generic one!

Would this transfer the data from the tascam/canon xlr input device to the r5c's data hot shoe?
Asked by: Billy
No, Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord (2') does not have a multifunction shoe to connect on Canon EOS R5C or Tascam CA-XLR2d-C XLR Microphone Adapter Kit for Canon Cameras therefore it can not connect the camera and the mic adapter electronically. Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord (2') is a camera accesory strictly for Canon Speedlites.

I am looking for the 10' version of this cord. Is such a product available? I want to use the 2nd curtain sync - so wireless isn't an option. It seems that 2nd curtain sync is only available when a flash or cord and flash are connect to the hot shoe.
Asked by: Greg
Once flash is attached to the extendable shoe, maybe extends to 3 feet, and makes it easy to reposition the flash. It simply gives you more control over direction of light to subject.

Does this have a 1/4-20 thread to attach to a tripod?
Asked by: Nicole
I am not sure about the thread size you are referring to. I tried to attach it (and successfully) to a small Joby, a modern video/foto Manfrotto, a cheap all plastic Vivitar and an old but heavy duty aluminum SV Kenlock AA. I hope this will give you an idea if it has the thread size you are looking for. If it can help, the cable is very short, I use this only on my hand when attached to my X100F and its little EF-X20 Flash (no TTL), on tripods and for larger flashes I use "cheap and dumb" Yongnuo wireless transmitters instead, they give me more freedom even at short distance and for macros.

question

Sorry, I should have clarified: I have a Fuji EF-X20 flash and an X-Pro1--Given that it is both a Fuji flash and camera, will TTL data be transmitted via this cable?Thank you,Yoichi
Asked by: Anonymous
No, this would still not work in the manner you are inquiring regarding. As I mentioned in my previous reply, The design of Fujis TTL contacts points on their flashes and hot-shoes is different from that of Canon. Even now that you have mentioned using a Fuji flash, youre still using a Canon-TTL cable which has the same contact points as a Canon flash shoe and Canon hot shoe have, and are different from Fuji. This would be no different than using the Fuji flash on a Canon camera (which would not support TTL either). This cable will only support TTL communication when both the camera and the flash in question are Canon TTL models. Unfortunately there is no Fuji type of TTL cable to offer you in this instance.
