Pistol Grip Ballhead is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for almost any user Bought this grip as an upgrade to my current carbon fiber Sunpak tripod. It is very easy to attach the head to the base and the unit even includes the step down thread insert for compact tripods. The unit supports by both my D300 and D3s without any issues. There is more than enough clamping power to support the camera with most lenses and accessories. The rang of motion is excellent in horizontal mode, but could be better in vertical. One minor nit pick I have is that the head is just slightly to large to fit in my tripod bag when mounted. All in all it is a great product at an exceptional price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUCH better than what it came with I purchased this to replace the mount the SUNPAK 6600P came with that busted after 3 months of use. We use it to take photographs for employee badges so it gets a fair amount of use. This ballhead unit has a much easier squeeze to the trigger which allowing for easier operation. The range of motion is much easier to adjust too. The original was a little stiff and wouldn't go a full 90 over. There is a wider & more stable base, greatly improved catch area & locking features. They should have used this on the tripod all along! The only con I would have is that it wasn't part of the original equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Novel approach to ball heads works well I bought this as part of B&H's kit that included a 3-way pan-head. I think the pan-head is more useful for panning, but that can be done with the pistol grip too, if you're careful. As some have said, the pistol grip requires a little strength to operate, but my 77-year old, slightly arthritic wrists manage without much discomfort. Another ballhead I own requires use of two knobs to operate. The Sunpak pistol grip, just one. I consider it very convenient and effective. It holds everything I've tried it with, though I haven't yet used it with a really big, long and heavy lens, because I don't own one. I short, I find it a good addition to my photography gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising! Recently bought this pistol grip at a local camera shop. After using it, don't know why I waited so long to try one, other than the cost as pistol grips are usually quite pricey. I used this grip with a nearly 50 year old Kowa 35mm SLR which is quite large, solid metal and very Heavy. Handled it with no issues at all. I have very small hands and had no problems at all with squeezing the grip. Wish the turn ring on the bottom of the camera base plate was bigger though. Will keep a very small pair of pliers in the cam bag to solve that problem. Set up is Very quick and easy. I use it on a professional Promaster Tripod. I'm quite pleased with with this pistol grip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You will be glad you bought it... I have the SunPak 777B(lack) tripod for which I purchased this and I am happy. It does not come with any instructions on how to remove the existing head but, a bit of WD40 and careful unscrewing does the trick. It is well made, sturdy to lift the tripod with camera attached by the pistol grip (packaging instructions advise against that). If you have more than one camera body, buy additional quick release base plates - SunPak part #620-732.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and good price I use this product to attach to a monopod, and it works great with this arrangement. The gimbal grip is firm and it can hold a good size dslr easily. The ring which is used to tighten the screw broken after a few use, and Sunpak sent a replacement promptly (still under warranty), Now I try not to tighten it too hard, or I will use a coin to tighten the screw instead of torquing the ring too much. Overall, I like this product and plan to purchase another one because the price is affordable for what I need.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broke in the first 5 minutes I had this item out of the box for a total of about 5 minutes when the locking clamp for the tripod plate broke off. The locking clamp is one of the few parts that are made of plastic and its a poor design. I was taking my camera off the grip when the clamp broke... Had I not been holding the camera by hand, it would have fallen almost 5 feet to the concrete floor of my basement. I got what I paid for. I would have rated it one star but to be fair, it was only xx bucks, B&H has credited me the value and other then the poorly designed plate locking clamp, the rest of the unit's build seems solid and functional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got the Grip I have looked at the piston grip for years, but would not buy one. It seemed to be more of a luxury than a tool, but I was wrong. This have been a great addition to my photographic accessories. In fact I going to buy another for my monopod. The trigger makes it so easy to position the camera horizontally or vertically. The quick release lever allows for a fast detachment mechanism, plus the adapter plate provides a very secure fastener for all my cameras. I am sorry to say that it took me this long to aquire such very necessary piece of equipment, and for nice price as well. Five stars to a solid grip.
