Plastic tightened stripped

Unfortunately, while the rest of it is metal, the ratcheting fastener is made of plastic, and has stripped after only two years of use. Why they can't make that part with metal, I have no idea.

Due to a wedding gig, i required a Wescott 7 feet umbrella to take group shots. The normal flash and umbrella mounting could support the weight of it. So I knew B&H would offer me something that would do the job. I read from another review that this Chimera single axis stand would do the job. So purchased 2 units. Came shortly in 2 days. I found that one of the parts that was supposed to in was not there in one of the unit. Sent email regarding the matter and without hesitation B&H responded and sent the part. I am extremely happy, B&H you got yourself a loyal customer now! Cheers!

I use this adapter to connect my Chimera Super Pro Plus Softbox to a boom stand. Rock solid is what I need and what this adapter delivers.

A fool purchases twice, I purchased twice. Do yourself a favour and buy the chimeras, they are more expensive as they are made to a standard, not to a price. I use them to hold Westcott 7 ft umbrellas, they do it with ease. This is a serious piece of well engineered equipment, I gave away my old equipment and ordered three more but the double axis type. You can't get better ... period, don't be a fool like me, purchase once and purchase the best, Chimera

I bought one, then I bought two more

Almost 5 stars, a night and day difference to cheaper units from other manufacturers, very sturdy and able to hold a heavy load. I use this to mount LED lights in combination with umbrellas. There are a couple of things that could be better however: 1) The plastic lever for tightening the unit feels a little flimsy and could have been made of metal, or even just a little thicker plastic design. I'm worried that with UV exposure it may weaken and crack. 2) The little brass accessories don't really work for me and I had to buy extra 5/8 studs - at the high price point they could have included several different types accessories. Despite that, I got two more because they do what I need them to do.

I have used it and it is very versatile & heavy duty. Works well with my cheaper light stand. It is very heavy.

Does this lock only by friction/tension, or, does it also have ratcheting teeth (similar to Westcott and Kupo tilt umbrella brackets)? On a 50degree tilt angle, can it securely lock while holding an extension arm with a 46 umbrella and four Nikon SB910 speedlights?
Asked by: Earle K Del R.
Friction only. I would NOT recommend loading it with that much gear. Use a heavier boom arm and a grip head.
