Does this lock only by friction/tension, or, does it also have ratcheting teeth (similar to Westcott and Kupo tilt umbrella brackets)? On a 50degree tilt angle, can it securely lock while holding an extension arm with a 46 umbrella and four Nikon SB910 speedlights?
Yes, it's just friction but very strong. Haven't tested it in the way you plan to use. I use it to hold large softboxes with a baby spud mounted to speedring. That's somewhat heavy but not a lot of torque with weight out at the end of an arm. I do love this item though. It's built like a tank and the odds are good it would hold your rig.
