Manfrotto 755XB overview

  • 1Description

Supporting up to 15.4 lb, the Manfrotto 755XB MDeVe Aluminum Video Tripod is an extremely versatile two-stage aluminum tripod that was designed specifically for run-and-gun videographers using Mini-DV or DVCAM camcorders where rapid, reliable setup and breakdown is paramount.

The 755XB has been redesigned to offer better ergonomics of the leg-angle release mechanism, and improved quick action leg locks. Flip lever leg locks clamp down tightly in one motion, yet are adjustable for wear over time. The built-in 50mm leveling ball provides rapid column leveling on uneven terrain, and leg tubes are grooved and keyed for torsional stability during setup and use.

    Manfrotto 755XB reviews

755XB MDeVe Aluminum Video Tripod is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Level for Video Production Perfectly fine for still shooting, if that's you, then seriously consider this rig. However, if you need to do 180 degree pans, like I do, for motion picture EFP, then you're probably not going to be happy with the sticks. The ball head (at least on the rig I have) is not level across that range. In fact a 90 degree move induces about 2 to 3 degrees on horizontal tilt on the sticks I have. And if one's shot horizon is 2 degrees off-level, it's a worthless shot. It is a terrible shame because other than that flaw it's exactly what I need for my style of production. It's small, light, you can get the lens vertical up to 5'9, it's rugged/durable, I can collapse it down so it fits in a carry-on sized bag, and it's not very expensive. Man, too bad about that unreliability with the leveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent for my specific needs I researched Tripods for a long time before making a decision on the 755XB. There are so many different models with different features to decide on. For me, all factors are important, weight, maximum height, minimum height, leg lock types, center column, price, ect. In the end this Tripod serves my needs b/c it is fast and easy to set up and change. I shoot a web series on DSLR cameras so I'm shooting every other day. I would expect most people shooting similar type of productions would be served with it as well. The next higher model up was $300 more and just to take one pound off the weight. I actually feel I need the extra weight to keep the tripod as sturdy as possible. Of course if you need it heavier you can add a sand bag to the hook to make it weigh more which is a cool feature i didn't know about till i bought it. Another hard decision was between a Tripod with a center column or no center column. When choosing gear its important to go with the item that will serve you for most shooting situations you find yourself in. In my opinion a center column is more advantageous for most shooting situations. A center column allows me the quickest possible way to raise or lower the height of the camera. Tripods with no center column are great if you want to get really low to the ground, but that is a special case, and is needed less often. This Tripod won't do everything. Don't expect to throw a Red One on it. If your changing out cameras often from DSLR to Full size broadcast or feature film cameras then you're going to need something else. But if you only shoot on DSLR cameras like the 5D, or Blackmagic Cinema camera, or small to medium size HD cameras this will do it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ideal tripod for travelling I replaced my 055CLB and 438 leveling plate from Manfrotto with the 755XB. It saves significant weight when travelling. I use it with a small Sachtler fluid head and a HVR-Z1. Height w/o middle column out just ok for shooting interviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for DSLR filming! I use this tripod for filming on my 7D with a 501HDV head which works great! I have a letus rig with a smallHD and an H4n on it too and holds up very well. Extremely sturdy, very portable, and pretty light. Great buy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what it is. All the benefits of a photo tripod without the drawbacks. I've had a hard time finding a good sturdy video tripod that can be used with a flat base. Reason being: I needed a second tripod with a flat base mount. I need to be able to place a slider on it with a single head and still be able to level it without using a second head underneath the slider. Also one that is sturdy/strong enough for slider shots yet light enough to carry around. I also need something where the height is easily adjustable. This one allows not only leg length adjustment but also can angle the legs out for low shots AND has the wonderful centercolumn. This center column is CLUTCH for being able to compose your shot by slightly raising or lowering without dealing with all three legs. Nothing more frustrating than composing a shot and realizing that the ideal height would actually be another inch or two higher or lower The best part and deal breaker? the leveling ability of the column. The center column is typically something reserved for photo tripods because it typically doesn't allow level adjustment. Through some magic voodoo this one allows you to rotate a knob at the base of the column and ONLY level the 50mm half ball. PERFECT. Almost like a hybrid photo video

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, Steady, and Well Made I use this tripod to videotape with a Canon GL-2. It is a very steady tripod and could handle video cameras at least twice the weight of the GL-2 with no trouble. I was a bit nervous about the snap to lock leg locks but they seem to be heavy duty and hold the legs securely without fear of breaking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Travel Tripod This is a highly versatile tripod. I love the ball-head for leveling and the lightweight design. I can strap it to a backpack or throw it in a suitcase and take it anywhere. Last week I used it to shoot a wedding and it worked perfectly with my Sony FS100 and Phillip Bloom pocket dolly. This is the best travel tripod I've used and it's great for run and gun situations. It is super quick and easy to level.
