These are passive stereo speakers for reproducing audio from a home audio amplifier or receiver. According to the product marketing - "The NS-6490 3-way bookshelf speaker from Yamaha is especially designed for use in a Home Theater. Magnetically shielded to protect your TVs picture, the solid black cabinet houses 7/8-inch tweeter for clean highs well above the range of most similar speakers, a 4-inch midrange driver for well-defined dialogue and voice and an 8-inch woofer for dynamic, forceful lows."* *source - http://www.audioreview.com/product/speakers/bookshelf-speakers/yamaha/ns-6490.html

The best speakers for what purpose? Are they primarily for music or TV/movies? Are they being used alone as a stereo pair or in conjunction with other speakers as part of a surround sound system? Is there a subwoofer involved? There is no perfect answer to the question you've posed. Sound is ultimately subjective. If you have questions and would like some guidance on which speakers may be best for you, please give us a call at 1-800-606-6969 for further assistance.
