Saunders M3 Overview

The 18" Professional M3 Rotary Trimmer from Saunders is designed to cut multiple sheets of paper or paper materials up to 1/8" thick and 18" in length. The trimmers are widely used in many areas of professional work, such as darkrooms, schools, ad agencies, home offices, and in many other areas where cutting paper is involved.

Because safety is a priority with this trimmer, the blade is housed in a die-cast alloy cutting head and is never exposed to your hand. The Comfort Grip is molded to the contours of your hand for a more comfortable hold during repeated cuts. The cutting head, dual steel rails, and the extruded aluminum supports on each end all help to maintain precise alignment. The rotary steel blade self-sharpens every time a cut is made and cuts many types of material, like mounting boards, photographic paper, vinyl, laminates, and card stocks.

The transparent paper guide holds the paper firmly flat against the board, which has a laminated hard top and a silk-screened grid with 1" increments. At the top of the board there is an extruded alignment scale showing both inch and metric measurements. The included Slide Guide attaches to the alignment scale, via the thumb screw, to better position your paper.

Saunders M3 Reviews

Cheap...but DOES NOT beat an X-Acto knife and straight edge.

If you're tired of using your X-Acto knife and a straight edge to cut your paper prints and you're ready to pay for a mechanical paper cutter...DON'T buy this rotary trimmer. After completely disassembling and re-assembling this trimmer, sharpening the blade, and in general wasting a lot of time...it still tears and creases almost every piece of paper I've tried to cut with it...ugh!

Best Cutter, Truly Professional Quality

This is the best quality with the cutter mounted on a double rail to prevent twisting. Sale price was the same as a plastic cutter I had previously bought.

It was on sale - so it's OK

I gave it only 3 stars because I had to send back the first order. The rubber on the cutting head was not holding in place and cutting didn't work well in the middle. The exchange was slightly better - It cuts thick paper pretty well, but regular copy paper is a hassle. Since I bought it to cut photographic paper it fullfils the purpose. I would give the built quality just an OK - not more, nor less

I bought this as a deal of the day and got a good price. Seems sturdy and well made. I am not a heavy user and believe it will be fine for my purposes.

Ok, not great

Well packed. Easy to setup. No instructions found. Cutting was not perfectly clean , but ok for most purposes. I hope it works in.

Works well. Will trim extremely fine edges. Easy to cut true corners with no ragged edges. Don't get paper creep as with guillotine cutters. Also don't worry about cutting your fingers with this one.

Awful. this trimmer tears pages rather then cuts them when more then 2-3 pages (thin normal paper) are being cut at once. When it does cut the lines cuts wavy, and not a straight cut, also the alignment of the guide is not at 90 degrees to the cutter, making good cuts even more difficult. i read other reviews and ignored them thinking this cant be THAT bad....well it is.

Not cutting well

I like the style and ease of this cutter. I especially like that I don't have to lock the paper down with every single swipe of cutting I need to make (on 100 sheets, cut on all sides of the paper, that's 400 times locking and unlocking to make a cut). However the wheel often moves around the paper making an uneven or angled cut, and it does not seem sharp enough as I still get raggedy edges most of the time. I read in the description that this is a self-sharpening cutter so I used it on scrap paper over 100 cuts to try to get it to make a sharper cut. To-date it has not been very successful in doing that. I have saved the box and, if it doesn't improve I will have to return it.

question

It says size 18 . Does this mean it cannot be used to trim 13x19 precut inkjet paper? If so, not very smart sizing . . .
Asked by: Stephen D.
Your image size is the limiting factor. If you are printing without borders, then it could be a problem. I use this trimmer with 16x20 inch silver paper, but my image size is 12 1/2 x 18 1/2. Also make the short cuts first in order to limit the longer dimension. all best, Peter
