The VariZoom VZ-ROCK-PZFI is a zoom/focus/iris controller for Panasonic cameras with 2.5mm zoom/start/stop and 3.5mm focus/iris ports. It features matching 2.5 and 3.5mm connectors on an integrated 40" cable, and a brass clamp for attaching it to most tripods, jibs, stabilizers, and other camera supports.

The controller has a pressure-sensitive, side-to-side rocker for zoom control. The rocker offers a wide sweep that provides for a greater range of motion and more accurate control than throttle-style zoom controls allow. Iris and focus are adjustable via separate smooth and quiet knobs that can be operated by two people, useful for moving/crane shots. Furthermore, focus and iris can be used in auto or manual mode, selectable via a switch. The controller is designed to provide precise control over these three camera functions and also offers a low-profile record/pause button.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing ROCKS! I usually shoot in a small studio, with the camera on a remote pan and tilt stand and use the remote to control the zoom and recording functions. But I have some field work coming and ENG work, so I wanted to get better video tripod head and the VZRock controller seemed to be a natural addition. All I can say is WOW, what a difference it makes to have all the basic camera controls at your fingertips!! The unit works perfectly; smooth zooming, quick focus and iris control. I'm totally pleased. Construction seems OK; we'll see if the unit holds up under the usual little slams and bumps of daily use. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Camera Accessory Handy rocker controller. I've been doing a lot of event videos, and spend a significant amount of time at more than half the zoom range. Making adjustments on the camera at that zoom level generally creates noticeable shake. This helps to limit the amount of camera shake that occurs. Make sure you insert both plugs into the camera firmly. I've noticed that the controls sometimes aren't uniform in the speed of change at the very start...but that could be me getting acquainted with the controller. Works great with my Panasonic HVX-200a, and should work fine with my Panasonic HMC-40.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great add to the DVX200 We bought it in lieu of a full follow-focus unit on rails, and so far have been happy with it. It's certainly plug-and-play, and once you have the camera set properly (focus on auto, zoom on servo) it worked like a champ. This was on our DVX200. Tried it on our other camera, an AC-160, and it didn't work. Plug-in was not solid, felt kind of spongy, and we just couldn't get the thing to operate the controls properly. To be fair, I don't know if it is listed as compatible with the 160, so maybe it wasn't supposed to be... With the DVX200, however, so far, it's been a good part of the kit. Solid build, pro feel. Instructions were limited (one sheet) but adequate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product - I use the VZ rocker when I tie in an HVX200 to my broadcast switcher to use as a manned camera. My camera people say they enjoy using it and that it gives it the feel of a broadcast-level zoom rocker. This little guy is especially useful if you're using a camcorder on a small jib - just buy the extension cable and you've got full control. The only downsides I found is that the zoom rocker doesn't seem to be speed sensitive, but there may be settings for this in the camera's menu systems. Another little issue is that you have to really jam the plugs into the camera - if they're loose at all you'll lose control, but once they get in there - they tend to stay.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My most used accessory. I use this controller on my tripod and Halo Rig and I find it to be a major convenience. I am able to concentrate on the shot much better when using this device. I only have three comments that I think have not been mentioned. First is that the iris knob is out of thumb's reach for me, but I rarely use it , so it's not a problem. The focus knob has a short travel range which I like, but it may not work so well for those who want very fine focus control. Finally, the mounting studs were too short for the Halo Rig, so I had to fabricate a new saddle bar to mount it to the rig. The supplied saddle works fine for the tripod.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from overall great, but.... Overall I love this thing with my Panasonic AJ-PX270 (and with my HVX-200). I agree with others that it seems there is no way to comfortably connect both LANC cables since one is slightly longer than the other and both cables are fairly rigid. Feels like I am putting some torque on the jacks. Setting that aside, my main gripe is that with the 270, the remote only allows the iris to open to f3.9. It won't go the remaining stops to full open. Setting THAT aside, this thing is nearly perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Tool No Videographer Should be Without This VariZoom controller provides focus, zoom and iris on a single control that can be mounted on the tripod handle. The large rocker allows for very smooth, even zooms, and the focus and iris dials are accurate. My only complaint is that the controls are laid out in such a way that you can only use two of the three controls at one time. It's a minor nit, but it has made me consider purchasing separate zoom and iris/focus controls for my B camera. The control has switches that let you quickly toggle between manual and auto iris and focus. The device interfaces easily with the HMC150, and I've had no issues with the controls. For event shooting, this controller is a must-have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works PERFECT with the Panasonic DVX200 All controls function perfectly on the DVX200... So much easier to control camera... Zoom is super smooth, Iris works perfect! I was able to manually control IRIS and leave focus on auto...
