    Digital Cinema Training DCT-MP/COMMAND reviews

DCD-Rom: Digital Cinema Course, DCT-MP/COMMAND is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It actually shows you how to MAKE a movie! I am leaving this review here and on IMDb:I love this course because it doesn't dwell on marketing and selling your movie, it just shows you how to MAKE a movie. There are other courses that do budgeting, selling, marketing etc and I already had them. I just wanted someone to show me HOW TO ACTUALLY MAKE A MOVIE. I already knew how to sell the film, but how can I sell what I haven't shot yet? I think personally with HD cameras down to $6000, anyone can get the budget to make a basic short with a little begging. What I needed was the how-do-I-do-it part. The Digital Cinema Course did that for me. From the Basic Production set to the Advanced lighting, I finally got the info I needed to get started. Expertise: Pro Videographer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good If you're interested in indie filmmaking, you won't go wrong by buying this course. Don't be put off by the cost because once you begin going through the DVDs you're going to find hours and hours of detailed information on how to actually make professional looking digital movies. Normally, when you buy books or DVDs about digital moviemaking, they include a lot of fluff about Hollywood movies but don't really deliver very much in the 'how to' department, and thats what these DVDs are all about. This course is different from similar offerings because it tells you about the different types of equipment you'll need, what they're for, and how to use them to get great looking results. Then it goes on to instruct you in how to actually produce a movie---from the very basics to very advanced topics, including how to write and structure your screenplay, setting up great shots, makeup and lighting, editing, etc. Its not perfect, and it doesn't teach every little thing there is to know about making movies, but I give it 5 stars anyway because it is very good, and definitely much, much better than all the other digital moviemaking books and DVDs being sold out there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Useful The series has some lesser moments where the finished product/professionalism is slightly lacking. With a film teaching about filmmaking this might make you wonder if you are getting your money's worth. However, after getting through most of the discs, I have to say the overall impression I have is positive. I learned a considerable amount. There is certainly room to watch many of the discs several times to get all the information down packed. I do recommend these videos to others who are intermediate or below. There are segments that are somewhat infomercial-like where companies talk about their products and what makes their products significant. They also show, however, how to use their products effectively, and the net result is that you learn about their equipment in a way one otherwise might not. This is important because there is often no better person to tell you how to get the most out of a piece of equipment you will use on the set, than the manufacturer's own representative. Much of the series, however, is not made up of vendors talking about their equipment. There is a ton of how-to's from lighting, to acting, to makeup to--you name it! Overall, there is a nice breadth of information AND I think it was well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I learned tons from this I used it to improve my lighting skills but learned so much more. It was great because it shows you lots of examples and demonstrations. It teaches the techniques in mulitple ways - explanation, demonstration and it also has segments that let you be a fly on the wall and watch the techniques being used in multiple situations. It's very detailed. One minus was the organization, I had to watch whole DVDs to find the information I wanted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I almost spent ... on Film School... Instead I'm buying $worth of filmmaking equipment and going right to work. Understand that I am a complete novice to this industry(former Electrical Engineer--job outsourced)and I have learned more watching this set(watched it the 1st time in a week)than I have learned reading 2 books I bought last year!!!(actually understand what the books are trying to tell me now!)Rush tells you everything you need to know and also shows you the wrong way to do things and then explains why it is wrong. Also the gear guide is exceptional. The products are explained and demo'd by people from the actual manufactuer in some cases and they don't really try and sell you their products as much as they do explain there uses in the film production process. All and all, this has been the best(and wisest) investment that I have made in a very long time!!! If you are a self learner...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY ON FILM SCHOOL!!! Get this instead!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Product! Covers Everything! I live in Chandler, AZ and I have friends that are paying tens of thousands of dollars going to Collins College pursuing film careers, but I think it's a huge waste of time and money. The investment in these DVDs might seem kind of steep at first, but it beats the tens of thousands you'd pay on tuition and student loans. Buy these DVDs and save the rest on making your films! Most of my education thus far has revolved around articles on the net and several books, but nothing has been as comprehensive as this course. The course goes over everything you can imagine. I've learned about script writing, editing, lighting, and even make up -- which is something I'm not interested in, but shows how thorough the creators were. I'm pretty sure that I have all the basics covered for shooting a strong film now. There was an issue with two of the DVDs not reading on my computer and I contacted the website's customer service and got replacements by the end of that same week. The fantastic customer service is what inspired me to spend time in endorsing this product.
