    Slik SH-705E reviews

    SH-705E 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great head - terrible packaging, support Semi-Pro for me means many of my photos are primarily for my professional use, not money. I spent last week using this in Yellowstone Park to photograph animals. It is sturdy and worked well in cold weather. It is excellent for the price. However, I have never seen such careless packaging. The package has the quick release in place, but the control arms and washers to make them turn smoothly, were (apparently) packed loosly in one large, unsealed plastic bag, with the head-proper, in a flimsy box. When it arrived, there was no washers in the bag and one was in a crack in the (outer) shipping box. Two weeks ago the manufacture promised to send washers - I am still waiting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Basic 3-Way Slik Head I had an old Slik U212 Pro tripod whose original head was losing the ability to hold its grip on a camera oriented vertically. This inexpensive tripod head is a reasonable replacement. It has the basics: three axes of freedom, a quick release plate, and the ability to keep a camera steady. The handles also fit screw into each other, allowing the head to be collapsed enough so the tripod will fit in a tripod bag. This head does not have any spirit levels, though some DSLRs can provide that capability for you. It also probably won't be up to the task of supporting a pro DSLR with an oversize telephoto lens. However, for the price and its ability to fit onto vintage Slik tripod legs, this head is a worthwhile purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective maybe? Tilt does not Lock This piece came with the Slik Pro 340DX tripod I bought and the upper tilt does not lock at all. No matter how big or small the lens I have attached I have to tilt it all the way back to keep it from falling forward. Pretty dangerous when you have it set up tall and have to step away. Thankfully I was there to catch it when it did fall over. I've only attempted to use it twice because of this. Had to hold the rear handle to be able to use it. Removed the camera when I wasn't attempting to shoot. Doesn't really make sense to me to have a tripod that I have to stand there and babysit, especially for 2 minute +/- night time long exposures (which I love doing). Seems defective to me. Hopefully it is just mine and this really isn't built this way. I hope your staff or Slik can help me out with because I'm really unhappy with this purchase right now

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Value A very simple, straightforward design. Easy to make fine adjustments. Solid quick-release connection. The only negative is that it's a little bulky -- in order to pack it in my camera backpack I need to remove the adjustment handles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right. I selected this pan head for my new carbon fiber tripod over the more popular recommendations of ball heads because it's lighter for similar loads and because I use the handles to hang my collapsed tripod on a loop behind my backpack when I'm out hiking. Can't do that with a ball head.I also prefer the handles when I make adjustments and I like the ability to pan the camera. For me, this becomes more clumsy with the ball heads.I use this pan head to mount my Nikon D600 and heavy Tokina 16mm and it does just fine. No need to overtighten anything and the pan is quite smooth.A slight disappointment is that the quick release mechanism doesn't lock open, you have to hold it open, so you need both hands to mount the camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from holds firm I have had this now for a little over a month. The head works just as it should, and holds very firm. On the down side, The screw in Q/R is too short for my liking, Wnen attached to my Nikon 300 f4. It is only long enough to take about two threads of bite, For my piece of mind, I will jury rig a longer screw that will utilize all the threades on my lense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great price for performance I use this attached to a glide track system. And it hold the camera (7D) in place without allot of fuss. sturdy all metal parts make this very durable. Easy adjustment. Don't get if you plan on using this to make panning shots or tilt, as the action is not smooth. But great for locking into a position and keeping it there for the duration of a shot.
