Leica 40290 overview

  • 1Description

Clearly, the Leica 8x32 Ultravid HD binocular is an ideal companion for outdoor activities such as bird watching, hunting, hiking, and others. This innovative Ultravid HD series symbolizes the manufacturer's commitment to high standards. This binocular reaches an unparalleled image brightness and contrast, thanks to Leica's Fluorite-Ion lenses. Leica goes beyond the realm of normal expectations in order to satisfy the requirements of fastidious enthusiasts.

These highly developed lenses further reduce chromatic aberrations, and produce high color fidelity. Its specially coated prisms increase light transmission, thus making it brighter than the predecessor. This improvement translates into better twilight performance to discern fine details in any low light situation. The 8x32 Ultravid HD benefits significantly from the Leica's "Aqua Dura" Hydrophobic lens coating to meet the high demands of "Go anywhere at any time use". This enhancement repels water from the optics and facilitates easier cleaning.

Highly durable and waterproof
Die-cast, magnesium, rubber-armored body has industry's highest rating for shock resistance. It's nitrogen filled and watertight to a depth of 16.5 feet.
Eyecups rotating design
Eyecups can be pulled out to two different click-stop positions. Rubber cushioned rings provide optimal benefit for eyeglass wearers.
Close focus distance
Binocular focuses from 7.2 feet allowing close observation of objects.
More light gathering
Highly developed lenses and prism coatings provide 3% increase of light for brighter views over its predecessor.
Improved focusing system
A finely designed focusing mechanism incorporates a lubricant free system with PETP-Discs for smooth movement throughout the operating temperature range.
Elegant design
Painstaking attention to ergonomic detail results in a beautifully contoured binocular that fits perfectly in your hands.
Diopter compensation
±4 dioptric correction to achieve clear vision
Adjustable interpupillary distance

    Leica 40290 reviews

8x32 Ultravid HD Binocular is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from World class I have upgraded from the swarovski SLC WB 8x30, also a fine binoc. I looked at these and the EL Swarovski and was so struck by the color and brightness of the Leica HD. I originally liked it because of the size and wt. but have come to love the optic clarity, color and brightness. Definetely the last pair of binocs I will ever need to buy. I highly recommend. However, if cost is an issue the Swarovski 8x30 SLC is also a strong set of optics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I am an avid bird watcher, and could not be any happier with the new HD version. I have owned the earlier Ultravid, and the EL's. Neither can compare. The size and weight are wonderful. The brightness is unbelieveable. The price is high but worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Leica quality These binoculars exhibit the truly exceptional quality that we have come to expect from Leica. Every aspect, including the packaging, is thought out with meticulous care. They are a joy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best compact binocular on the market The combination of size, weight and optical quality makes it an ideal binocular on trips, when you are on longer walks (hunting, photo) with other heavy euipment to carry. Very impressed with the optical quality (I have a few other high quality binoculars from before). No strain on your neck after a long day in the field.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best hunting binos ever I own many quality binos by Swarovski, zeiss and leica, the top of the line stuff in varying magnifications and objective diameters. these are still the go to pair for me for African hunting, for almost all hunting actually, and I bought them the year they came out. still about the brightest out there, or close to it, and PH's are continually amazed at the brightness and clarity----they often have to wear heavier binos with greater magnification (for trophy evaluation), and are wistful about the combination of light weight, less bulk and super optics. they have so little bulk that, when worn short-strapped, I never notice them when pushing through brush, climbing, whatever; they are just not a weight or bulk factor when you're active.. if one needs higher magnification or low-low light performance you will look elsewhere, but for being able to see what you need to see in a very lightweight configuration, look no further. the one drawback---use them enough in the real world and the plastic cap covering the front hinge will eventually break off. might as well call leica usa and get a couple of spares if you're actually using them. for the less active, like birders, that'll never happen.
