Leica Apo-Televid 65 overview

  • 1Description

The angled-viewing configuration APO-Televid 65mm Spotting Scope from Leica combines premium optical elements with a weather-sealed housing and a proprietary micro-focusing system. Four fully multi-coated apochromatic lens elements and a Schmidt prism system form the core of this optical instrument. Leica's fluoride apochromatic glass is engineered to transmit luminous images that are geometrically flat from center to edge and color-faithful across the entire visible spectrum. When paired with Leica's 25-50x wide-angle aspherical zoom eyepiece (separate purchase required), the APO-Televid renders high-contrast images that are rich with detail.

A magnesium-alloy chassis makes the structure of the APO-Televid as rigid and durable as aluminum-chassis designs in the same class but significantly less heavy than those models. To deliver weatherproof performance, the optical channel is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed, maintaining its watertight seal to a depth of 5 meters. The AquaDura-coated hydrophobic objective lens surface resists moisture accumulation by causing rain and condensation to bead up and roll off the lens surface. The rubber-armored body is shock absorbent and slip resistant, providing an additional layer of protection against the unexpected. Leica's proprietary internal dual-focusing system enables you to control the focus of your scope with coarse or fine movements, ideal for digiscoping and nature observation. The integrated rotating tripod collar, quick-change bayonet eyepiece mount, and sliding lens hood make the APO-Televid a full-featured spotting scope for a wide range of recreational and professional glassing applications.

    Leica Apo-Televid 65 reviews

APO-Televid 65mm Spotting Scope (Angled Viewing, Requires Eyepiece) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best! This is really the best 60mm class scope available. First I bought the Swarovski ATX 65. I returned it because there was a blemish in the AR coating, which was probably a rare slip on QC. However, while I had the scope I did evaluate it and was surprised that I could detect chromatic aberration at high magnifications, definitely off-center but even on center with dark objects against snow. While admittedly this is a rather demanding test an astronomical scope like a TeleVue 76 APO passes it easily. So even though I liked Swarovski's modular approach and the position of the zoom and focus adjustments (more camera lens-like) I decided not to order a replacement and go with the Leica. Good decision. I can see no CA except way off-center. While it is not a side by side comparison I thought the image through the Leica is crisper, has more contrast, has more pop. I did do a resolution test indoors (no mirage effects) with a small Edmunds Optics USAF test chart. At any magnification the scope is capable of outresolving eyes with 20/20 vision (about 100 arc seconds). I did get the Leica case for the scope. While it is ridiculously expensive it fits the scope like a tight glove, literally, and makes it quite tossable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Optic Bought the scope and the 1.8 extender giving me 40 to 90 X magnification. The clarity of this Leica optic is amazing. Have only used it at a 100 yard rifle range so far but it makes it appear like you are standing next to the target observing the .23 inch holes! I also have Leica 10X25 Ultravid binos which I've compared side by side to the Swarovski 10X25's and my Leicas were the clear winner. PS - the Swarovski owner agreed!
