100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 90.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase. I purchased this lens for macro shots of insects and plants. I originally purchased a Canon 50mm compact macro lens, but after being disappointed, I sent it back. Next I decided on the Canon 100mm macro, but was held back by thy price. I read the good reviews for this lens and decided to take a chance. I am not disappointed. The cons in the reviews are true, but don't really bother me. It does have a slow autofocus, but I shoot in manual so no problem there. It is heavy, but to me that means a more durable build. The weight doesn't bother me and so far my tripod hasn't complained either. The images are sharp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Most Excellent Lens! This is an excellent lens with nice quality finish, quick AF and very nice levels of motor noise - the limit switch it very handy to keep AF at a minimum. Images so far have been extremely sharp and free of Chromatic Aberation. Weighting of the lens on the camera gives a nice solid feel, movements are smooth and precise. Using as a portrait lens the AF is incredibly quick considering the focus is not all internal. Price point is also very nice as images compare (and exceed) those taken with pricier units. Only caveat is a small amount of hunting in AF in low light at 1:1 marco level - but that is not the normal way to do macro anyway! ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pin Sharp Lens, Excellent Value, Excellent Price This lens is far cheaper in cost than many others. However, it is pin sharp, gives image quality of much more expensive lenses and made very well. It is a little heavy but that is because it is made with metal and has weather sealing. The focus system is a tad odd when first fit it on my body, but after exercising it to infinity and back it works perfect from then on. My only suggestion would be image stabilization. I absolutely would recommend this lens to others. My primary usage for this lens was portraits and it performs beautifully, I have used it for its macro capabilities as well and it produces fantastic images whether its a crop sensor or full frame.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Jury is still out When it works, this lens is really quite good. Unfortunately I wound up with one that causes errors with my camera. I will revisit this review once I see how the warranty takes care of the issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite lens! I've had other lenses that claim to be macro, but this is the first dedicated macro lens. It is amazing! It's fast, crazy sharp and produces excellent images. The reviews I saw had it at a level with the big name lenses, only hundreds of dollars less. All true.If you're on the fence about which to get for yourself, take the plunge. This is a great lens!I like the auto/manual focusing clutch. Much easier than finding a button to go between the two.Being a 2.8 max aperature, it's pretty fast.It has a solid feel and things don't rattle around inside. And the images are FANTASTIC!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value This lens really is a great value. I use the lens primarily for portraits and still life photos. It's quite sharp and has nice bokeh on my Canon 6d. The build quality is very good. The autofocus is a little slower than I'm used to at portrait distances, but in good light it's not horrible considering it does not have a USM focusing system. The focus ring is well damped, which helps make manual focusing at macro distances much easier. CA is a little higher than I expected, but not terrible. Overall, I'd say you can't beat this lens for the current price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Macro Lens I bought this lens to use it for the macro application. I didn't want to sink a lot of money into an item I didn't know I would use a lot. I have had great experience with Tokinas in the past and this one is not any different. Construction is solid, optical performance is great. AF is slow but very accurate, that can be expected from a macro lens. I have used the lens to shoot portraits and macro images and am super happy with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens Tokina's lens is well made, and out performs expectations. Well crafted and performs well in low light. Macro capability is nice, even better when paired with a remote switch and tripod. Great for portraits so long as you don't mind taking a step or two back. Can't speak for durability, but I've never had a problem mishandling my equipment. Thought the depth of field was shallow, turns out it was my view finder. No issues to report; simple and easy to use.
