Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent light for food photography It's a very good light for food photography. I don't need more than one. It comes with a simple corrugated plastic reflector, and that does the trick. Yes, it's expensive, but it's also very well made. I don't think it's flimsy, and I certainly wouldn't be able to make myself one that's as good as this one. I recommend it.The only minor point is that the lamps will take a few minutes to be at their brightest. Initially I thought one of the bulbs was broken, but it needed 5 minutes to warm up. Maybe a note in the instruction about this would be good. I noticed some other reviewer had the same issue and he too was under the assumption the light was broken.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed my life I use ego digital imaging light for food photography. After more than a year chasing the light around my house and before a certain time a day, the Lowel changed my life. I can take photos whenever I need to now and they look like they were taken in natural daylight. No kidding. The light was fairly easy to put together. I say fairly because I was a little concerned that I'd break the bendable plastic inside the light as I was setting it up. The light is bigger than I thought it would be but that's one of the best features. The included light reflector is also a big bonus. If you're a food photographer, don't hesitate to get this light. It's worth it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This product isn't bad. So, I am not 100% sure how I feel about this product yet. I do food photography for restaurants menus and I will looking for something more portable and easy to set up. When I received this in the mail and started to put it together I realized I wouldn't be able to do it alone. I had a coworker help me set it up and even with 4 hands it was still pretty difficult. I like to use as much natural light as possible and so I got this to use as a side lighting to help with shadows. The light has a decent amount of brightness, but it is pretty blue compared to the natural light. All in all. It does its job and it's easy to move around because of its size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Natural Light Alternative I purchased this setup after moving to an apartment that has terrible natural light, and coupled with the decreasing light of fall/winter, I was desperate for alternative. The Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light has been a lifesaver for my food blog, and no one knows the difference but me! I do tend to cover the light with a thin, white cloth to help diffuse it a bit, but otherwise it's great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for... These lights are great for a number of reasons. First of all, they are inexpensive and easy to assemble. The quality of the light they produce is soft and easy on the eye. The amount of light they produce, while not brilliant seems adequate for digital photography even at ISO 100. I purchased these for a few reasons. I had to do a color test in the studio of a number of dilutions of a beverage. The color temperature of the lights were perfect for the client to see a line up of clear glasses and make some decisions on the brewing of the beverage for photography. Secondly, there are times that I do not want to set up lights for a quick shot of something-these eliminate sync cords, flash packs, etc- down and dirty, but with a good soft quality light. I recommend them for everyone from entry level shooters to the studio pro who just needs a quick light that still looks good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed, at a great price I was looking for something to supplement, and sometimes substitute for, natural light, for food photography, and this does the job perfectly. I have a small space to work in, and this works well that way -- it can sit on the table, or it can be attached to a lightstand, it's easily moveable and adjustable in terms of position. I was a bit wary of the assembly process. I did not find it too easy, I could have used an extra set of hands -- and I was worried about breaking the lights. But the instructions provided (they're inside the reflector -- I didn't see that at first, and found them on the website) were clear and easy to follow, although requires a bit of strength (it looks flimsy in the pictures, but it definitely is not!). It provides more light than I expected, which is great. There's a lot of light here for the price -- I'm even considering buying a second one. Very happy with this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh Picked up one of these units on a blog recommendation, actually. I liked the results that the blogger showed. I hate to say, however, that the design is fairly shoddy, which makes the price a little outlandish. The tiny rubber stoppers inside, meant to hold the unit together, constantly pop off. One of the two bulbs that came with the unit seems to be working at half-power. The assembly is a little maddening as well. For what it is and it's size, I'm not sure why it doesn't come already assembled so it could be shored up and tightened to hold together in a more permanent fashion. Diffusion and color temp is good however. Brightness is fairly ok, but like I said, I received a dim bulb that I need to replace.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product but not perfect I bought this light to use for food photography in my home. The light was easy to set up and the instructions were clear, but I was disappointed with the brightness of the bulbs and the color of the light. This is a good starter product, but is not perfect. PROS: Easy set-up, lightweight, easily portable, great for a novice photographer CONS: Color of light was too blue, and light is not bright enough to use alone, unless you want moody night-time lighting. I am still planning to keep this product but think I will eventually want a more elaborate set-up, or additional lights to support this light.
