Nikon HB-45 overview

  • 1Description

The dedicated Nikon HB-45 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II or 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens. It is not compatible with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II, which uses the HB-69 hood.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

    Nikon HB-45 reviews

    HB-45 Snap-On Lens Hood is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 265.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what you would expect When I purchased my D3200 kit I did not initially realize that the 18-55mm lens did not come with a hood. While this hood was inexpensive and mounts on the lens very easily the one drawback I have noticed thus far is when you are wanting to focus the lens manually. When the hood is in place it does not leave much room for your fingers to grasp the lens for manual focusing. In this case I have had to remove the hood to make this operation easier. Other than this I have been very happy with this product and feel better that my lens has more protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is what it is Just getting into photography in a serious way with the purchase of a D7000 after many years of loving and enjoying it.This product? You get what you pay for. I am giving the hood five stars because it does everything I expected it to, and docking it points would feel unfair for something that costs less than $$. I got the best deal I could through B&H. Is it flimsy? A little, but not awfully so. Should it be pushing $$? Probably not in a just world, but such is life. I got it because a hood is seemingly always a good investment. Just knuckle down and shell out. The marginally better photos you get as a result over the time you use the 18-55mm lens will make it worthwhile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as intended The HB-45 works as intended to reduce lens flare, lens protection, etc. I had read some of the other reviews here prior to purchasing and I was concerned by some of the commentary that people had made concerning the snap on feature of this hood. After using the hood on a recent trip I can say that the hood works fine. The hood did take a few light bumps and never came off. The snap on feature allows for a slightly faster connect/disconnect over a standard quarter turn connection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens hood! I use this lens hood with my Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens on my Nikon D60. It's great for protecting the lens from accidental bumps, and is very easy to mount, even with multiple filters on. It's small and lightweight, making it easy to store in my camera bag. However, it's a little shorter than I imagined, and I'm not sure how much lens flare is actually being eliminated. Also, I think it should come with the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It functions as it should. There is only so much that one can say about a lens hood. This one seems reasonably tough for plastic and fits easily and securely. I have not noticed any vignetting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Real Must Have This hood is made for the 18-55 lens that came on my D40. I take photos in all kinds of light and a hood is a must... Then, in addition to controling the light from the sides of the camera, the hoods protects the lens surface, from the knocks and bangs of everyday shooting!!! I consider a UV filter and a hood a must for each lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HB-45 Snap-On Lens Hood for 18-55mm f/3. There really isn't much to say about this hood... I bought it because it is the one recommended for the kit lens that came with my Nikon D5000. It is the correct size (doesn't interfere with shots) and snaps on very easily. However, I do think this is something that should come standard with the kit lens when purchased with a new camera. I don't think Nikon needs to charge extra for something that has been included with other Nikon lenses that I have purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Suprisingly convenient *, it's a lens hood.... However, it uses a latch sort of attachment (a very simple variation on Nikon's recent lens caps) instead of a screw-mount, and comfortably stores on the front of the lens in a reversed position when not in use.The only downside is that Nikon didn't include this hood with it's primary 18-55mm kit lens for the D-60. I had to dig through the manuals to find out what it was, and then order it separately.
