    Series 7 XDL56P reviews

XDL56P LED On Camera Light Kit is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright and convenient Absolute necessity for on the go shoots in low light. It is a blinder though...I have taped some diffusion to the front of the light.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs a little more than it has... We are looking for new on-camera lighting to replace our old Frezzis, which were very cumbersome due to the built-in NP-1 style battery sled... We want something more streamlined and easy to use, and less bulky. This light is a nice first step. It attaches to the hotshoe mount of our small-size P2s (we have 200's and a 170), and is very simple and easy to use. Possibly the best thing about it is that it takes the same batteries as our cameras, which is great since our cameras don't seem to have a power tap (at least, I can't find one on the camera or in the manual). The light is daylight balanced (56K) and even, although the spread is limited. We found the light to be rather blinding as-is, so we've affixed diffusion material it. Much less blinding and better, softer light, but diffusing it really cuts down on the range quite a bit (and this light isn't super powerful to begin with). One design issue that we've seen is that the hotshoe mount comes off if you uncrew it too far. Not a huge deal for now, we just screw it back on, but I'm waiting for the day when we lose that part. The design is interesting and I kind of dig it, but I think there is definite room for improvement. The body is all plastic, and as such I question the durability of this light. It simply does not feel like professional grade equipment to me. Also, it's a shame that there are no built-in or ready-made accessories like a gel holder, barn doors, etc. The diffusion that I mentioned above was cut to size by me and taped on with black gaffer's tape. Not too pretty, but it does the job. Overall, not a bad little light, but for the money I think we'll try some other options before we upgrade. I think this light generally does what it was designed to do; I just wish it did a little more.
