ARRI Compact Fresnel Three-Light Kit Overview

The Arri Compact Fresnel Three-Light Kit is based on three of the most popular tungsten Fresnel fixtures on the market--the Arri 150W, 300W Plus and 650W. This is a full lighting kit, including bulbs, scrims, barndoors, filter frames, light stands, and a hard wheeled carrying case.

The highly efficient 300W Plus Fresnel has a 3.2" (80 mm) low expansion, borosilicate Fresnel lens, producing a soft, even field of light.

The 650W Fresnel features the same lens, reflector, housing and power cord as the 300W Fresnel. The beam angle in the flood position is 52° and a narrow 14.5° in the spot position.

This kit is equipped for use with 120VAC.

I am working in a small group doing video production and this light kit has worked wonders. The real impressive aspect of this product is its portability, it is not very bulky it fits in it's case and your ready to go.

Great Lighting Kit

I am a videographer, and filmmaker, and I finally invested in a light kit. I chose this kit because it would help with interviews, for videography, as well as on small film sets. So far I have not been disappointed, the combination of a 150, 300, and 650 light has been great. Allowing for good contrast on subjects, and good back light with the 150. The barn doors, and skrims allow for even greater maneuverability. The kit is fairly compact, and everything fits well within it. It can easily go into just about any trunk space, even smaller compact cars. The lights do get hot, so make sure you have a good pair of gloves if you're going to handle them. But lights like this getting hot is nothing to be unexpected. I am thoroughly glad with my purchase, and would suggest to anyone looking to get a reliable, and versatile kit start here.

Great Lights

I am an indie filmmaker / photographer and wanted lights to help my work stand out and look professional. These lights are really good an easy to set up, the only thing is they do get hot very fast so invest in some gloves too! The only thing I would wish different is that my case had wheels! I would recommend these lights to anyone who is a pro as a very good starter set! I don't have pics of the lights yet but the set is nice and seems very durable!

Solid lighting kit. Arri has an unbeatable reputation for a reason. Expensive but you're really getting what you pay for. May want to consider some more powerful lights as if you're bouncing or diffusing lights, these quickly become not very powerful. Nonetheless, I'd highly recommend these.

Great for interview lighting

The quality of light these Arri's have is really nice. I use them for filming interviews and they look great. The 650 looks great with a Chimera Softbox too. Between these three lights and a reflector, you have a lot of flexibility. You can tell they are high quality products too. The case is very rugged, and I know this is going to last me a long time. The lights do get hot, but that's to be expected with Fresnels I guess.

question

What do I need to loosen/tighten the little black screws that hold these lights together? The screws seem to require something other than phillips head or flat head screwdriver?
Asked by: Anonymous
Some of the units in the kit use phillips head and others in the kit use an Allen Key. It is nothing special but best to get an Allen Key set to make sure you have more than one size.

question

Does this come with a dimmer? If not, what dimmer works with these lights?
Asked by: benjamin
Dimmers are not included with the ARRIDigital Dimmer - 1800 Watts (90-130VAC). If you need to dim the lights included in the kit, I would recommend to purchase three (3) of theImpactD1000 1,000W AC Dimmer Control (110-120V),B&H #IMD1000, which may be used with theARRICompact Fresnel Three-Light Kit (one for each light).

Can you change the color temperature of these lights? If not do you have a suggestion for similarly powered lights where you can change the color temperature? For tungsten lights if you change the white balance to cancel the yellow tones does it produce high quality, clean and non yellowish footage?

No the following units are not bi-color units. The following item has a color temperature of 3200K.

question

does this set comes with 650w bulbs and the necessary cables to get it working out of the box?

This kit would include 2 650w bulbs and 1 300 watt bulb. The necessary cable to plug them into an AC outlet are pre-installed on each fixture.

It appears that the 150W light in this kit is supplied with a bulb having a 2900 degree color temperature, while the other two lights are supplied with 3200 degree bulbs. Are 3200 degree bulbs available that would fit in the 150 watt housing? And can anyone comment on how likely the 2900 vs 3200 difference is to be a significant issue in video'ing indoor interviews? Thanks.
Asked by: Alfred
While there are no 3200° K bulbs for the Arri 150 Fresnel, the difference in color temperature can be supplemented with the use of a CTB filter or with a custom white balance setting in the camera.
