    VariZoom VZ-MC50 reviews

VZ-MC50 Pan and Tilt Head System is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from So far so good I was using this for my EX1R, a bit tricky to balance in the beginning, but very easy once you know how. The controller is a smooth in the higher speed range but very unreliable at the slow speed (sometimes it can even be reverse, meaning your up became down, etc). However the manual does says to give it at least 1/4 of the way in the speed dial, but if they know this, why give the option to the end user? The bottom line the speed difference from the slowest to the fastest is barely visible. Having said that, after using it for 4 days full-time recording, this unit is very reliable and easily controllable from 120 feet away (with the extension cable) One more thing, this unit comes the a case that will fit 4 of this unit. I was shock to see how big the case is when it arrive...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Nice Head for lightweight, mid-level jib system I have a Kessler Crane 8/12 foot jib. I wasn't looking to go out into the market as a jib-op, just to have something for shoots in our small studio. We started out with a cheap-o knock off head for a couple hundred bucks and it really sucked. I've had the Varizoom MC-50 now for a few weeks and it's a great step up. I realized that the knock-off head was actually designed off of the MC-50, but the genuine article is worlds better. Construction quality is very good. Mounting options are plentiful. Motors are really where this takes a huge step up - much quieter and smoother. Altogether this is exactly what I wanted in the first place for a smaller jib, using smaller, lighter cameras like the C100, 5D, etc. I have no problem getting smooth starts and stops and haven't noticed any of the issues with slow speed operation that other reviews mentioned in the past. Cons: I do wish the controller had a ramp setting to control how dampened vs how responsive the movements are. You can control max speed but not 'ramping'. The default setting built in seems to work well though.
