Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Overview

Ideal for photographing distant subjects, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II from Canon is an 88-400mm-equivalent zoom covering a versatile range of telephoto focal lengths. Telephoto zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides an 88-400mm equivalent focal length range.
One Ultra-Low Dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 4 stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
A DC Micro Motor autofocus system provides quick focusing performance and a dedicated AF/MF switch allows for quick switching between auto and manual focusing methods.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Look, this lens is inexpensive, but for the price you can achieve some quality photos. Because I travel with an inexpensive camera, canon rebel, I fear damage and getting ripped. I am satisfied, I needed a good telephoto lens and it pairs exactly as it should. Works great on auto and manually. With proper care and cleaning it will last for years.

I've only had my camera (Rebel T7) for about 2 months, this is the 1st lens I purchased aside from what came with the camera (18-55mm). I wanted something that had a better zoom but still in budget. I've had this lens for almost a month and so far I love it! I've taken around 550 pictures with it since the day it came in and it's now my main lens. Everything seems to work as it should and best to my acknowledge since I'm new at this. Autofocus works well and is decently quiet, but again I am new to all of this . I'm excited for football season to see how well I can do with action shots.

question

Do I need to have a hood for this lens and if so what is the purpose of the hood? Thanking you in advance
Asked by: Christy C.
I bought this lens as a Christmas gift for one of my sons. This I have not used it myself. However, he used it for soccer and other action shooting of his 7-year old daughter and always seems to use the hood in sunny settings. My own experience with many kinds of lenses over the years is that a hood is useful to have on hand if not on the lens for every outing with a given lens. It really helps reduce flare. And it is protection against bumps of the front element--I tend to avoid using filters except a polarizer (as needed).
