Technics SL-1210MK5 overview

  • 1Description

The SL-1210MK5 from Technics is a high-quality analog turntable designed for DJ use. The turntable features a die-cast aluminum platter, with selectable speeds of 33 1/3 and 45 RPM. It has a Quartz direct-drive and a brushless DC motor.

The turntable offers a variable pitch range of ±8%, and has a no-click pitch control, as well as a button that will instantly reset the pitch to zero. The electronic brake can be adjusted by removing the slip mat and making a simple tweak with a screwdriver. You can set the turntable to halt instantly, wind down slowly, or respond anywhere in between. Technics SL-1210MK5 reviews

SL-1210MK5 Analog DJ Turntable (Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from there is no substitute for this product I have used Technics 1200 series turntables professionally for over 10 years. I used to think it didn't matter how good the turntable was, but once I laid my hands on the 1200 I immediately knew the difference. I already had a Black 1210MK5 and needed one to match and not only was B&H one of the only places to have one in stock, they had the best price. This turntable has been the staple of DJs worldwide for over 30 years. The design has changed very little in 3 decades and still it is lightyears beyond it's time. The turntable allows me to reach inside the music and manipulate it with precision. I started DJing with vinyl, switched to CDJs, and now am back to using vinyl to control DJ software. I know firmly that I will always use the Technics 1200 as my preferred way to mix music. There truly is no substitute.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technics SL-1210 MK5 WOW what a TT * Used in home stereo application.* Perfect speed/pitch * Perfect build quality (extreme by todays standards).* I'm leaving it stock, all this talk about the tone arm being weak, bad tone arm wire, etc is nonsense. As it sits, it performs as well as or better than my Rega RP6.Lets call it a different sound, more lively, better bass, great presence, and the abnormal ability to track perfectly no matter the level of vibration, foot stomping, etc Don't be fooled by Ak'ers telling you todays TT's are much better, I've owned plenty of them and I can assure you, they are not. The specs are better on the Technics, but leaving the specs out of it, the SL-1210 MK5 simply sounds absolutely incredible, period !Those that dismiss this deck because kids use them to DJ with are fooling NO ONE but themselves. I believe they drank the purple kool-aid.Simply put, one would have to spend in the vicinity of $3000+ to even begin to hear an increase in sound quality from todays turntables. If you plan to spend a couple thousand on a modern table, save your money and buy the Technics. B&H Photo:I can't speak to their problem solving abilities, as my turntable arrived in perfect condition, double boxed with plenty of packing. They got the table to me in less than half the estimated time. I think it took 2 or maybe 3 days. They even covered the shipping cost, how can you beat that ?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice table but not perfect I bought 2 of these and at the price being over 1k each I can't say they are entirely worth the price. One of the tables works well while the other has some speed issues that waver a little bit with or without the reset button on. For a brand new table it should be spot on. I will probably be returning these for MK2's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product, a bit pricey Everything about the product is great. Quality, performance, looks - I couldn't ask for any improvements. The product does everything I expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm really enjoying it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that Technics changed the interconnects in 2009 resuling in capacitance that's too high. They then changed it back after realizing the error but my table has the bad one. I had to contact KABUSA to get the right one and then install it. Beyond that, I'm glad I decided to get one before they're gone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overpriced based on what you're getting. Better options. I can just feel the talons coming out so I fully expect people not to like this review. That said, I understand, the truth hurts.PROS:This is a great turntable with a proven track record of reliability. It is used by DJ's all around the world and has a proven track record of reliability. It also holds its value well and there is a lot of resources and documentation available online for this board.But... is it worth the $ price tag? Absolutely not. Are there better options for turntables? Absolutely, so let's look at the cons:CONS:PRICE!!!! Outrageous for what you're getting. $ or so is going to the brand name and their advertising budget. I want to mention another product that is 6 times less expensive but just as reliable and with MORE features than the Technics 1210.The table I'm talking about is the Audio Technica LP1240-USB table that B&H sells here for $. This is a Super OEM table and if you know anything about DJ'ing, you'll know that Super OEM tables are the gold standard. It has 10+ years of reliability experience and is the go-to table for smart DJ's who want the best table but love the idea of spending 6 times less money than they'd spend on the Technics 1210.With the Audio Technica LP1240-USB, you've got double start-stop buttons for battle setup, multiple pitch controls, brake and start speed selectors, instant reverse, proven tonearm, ability to play 33 1/3, 45, AND 78 RPM records, pop-up detail light, RCA (phono) and USB (line) outputs, and the list goes on. Definitely check it out before you drop $ on a table that is truly subpar compared to the $ Audio Technica Super-OEM LP1240-USB table. Here is the link right here on B&H where you can view the Audio Technics table:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/850003-REG/Audio_Technica_AT_LP1240USB_AT_LP1240_USB_Professional_DJ_Direct_Drive.htmlNow I know some of you are frothing at the mouth so feel free to try justifying the cost but keep it civil, if that's even possible when people are raging about turntables.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ... UK plug in? ... it was a UK model with the wrong plug in... not a huge deal because it came with the adapter. Seems to work fine.
