The NVT NV-813 converts the video signal coming from up to 8 analog BNC devices so that they can be transmitted over UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) telephone wires. Along with color and B/W video, this unit will also transmit Coaxitron (up the coax) PTZ control signals over the same UTP wire, eliminating the need to run a separate control cable. Some of the key advantages UTP has over a BNC cable is a lower cost, less bulkiness and most importantly, the ability to transmit over longer distances without suffering signal attenuation. A UTP transmitter is also an obvious choice for use in buildings already wired for UTP. Various controls are in place so as to allow multiple signals to share the same cable without causing interference problems.
Long Distance Transmission
The maximum UTP cable distance supported by this unit depends on the type of UTP receiver used at the other end of the cable. When used with an active receiver, transmission distances of up to 3000' (1km) are possible. With a passive receiver, transmission distances are limited to 750' (225 m). The maximum UTP cable distance for Coaxitron (up the coax) control is 750' (225 m), regardless of the type of receiver or UTP cable in use.
