Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED Overview

Superb at close range, the Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED is a short telephoto macro lens offering a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a 7.3" minimum focusing distance. Contributing to clear and accurate rendering, the lens design incorporates two aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to reduce aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and color accuracy. Slightly longer-than-normal prime is designed for FX-format F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 90mm equivalent focal length.
Ideal for macro shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 7.3" to suit working with close-up subjects.
Two aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
One extra-low dispersion element greatly reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
Both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Nikon AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED Reviews

Good fit for specific task

I purchased this lens specifically to use with the Nikon ES2 digitizing adapter (using this approach: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4370756) and it works extremely well for that. It works pretty well for normal use, as well. For sserious macro use, it can require being so close to the subject that lighting is a problem in some settings, but that is not why I purchased it. (For that I'd probably look at 105 mm lenses.)

Love it!!!!

I've only used it a few times, but this lens was just what I needed. It was responsive and provides a great photo. I'm doing macro and it has been perfect for that. It is solid, easily attach and remove. Works well in manual or automatic.

Excellent Quality and Versatile

Quality build, bought it to scan film using Nikon ES-2 for which I am getting excellent results. Also doubles as an excellent normal lens, not as fast as the 50mm 1.8 G but much better overall. Use it at the maximum f2.8 for better images than the 50mm at f2.8. As an extra bonus this is a top notch dedicated macro lens for which I have no much use!

Great for slide copies

Using lens with Nikon’s slide copy attachment to make high resolution scans with a D 850. Fantastic, easy, sharp and fast

Fun with Close Ups

This is a nice solid lens that looks spot on sharp to me. Another thing I've noticed with this lens is its bright and snaps into focus for me easily in the manual focus mode. When shooting close up it seems I need to manually focus with my D7200. yes I'm using this on a DX Nikon. It works great and is looking really sharp as well for my pet portraits.

2 questions: Can I use this lens on my Z7 and get the same results as I would on my DSLR? If yes, can I use this lens with the focus stacking feature on my Z7 and get good results?
Asked by: Craig
I do not have a Z7 so I cannot speak from experience. However reading the available Nikon and B&H descriptions of the camera and lens, I see no reason why not. The Z7 has the same Focus Shifting feature as the D850 (which is fantastic) so all should be good.
