Sony SAL70300G Overview

Start photographing distant subjects with ease by using this 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM Lens from Sony. Optimized for full-frame A-mount cameras, this zoom lens will provide an excellent telephoto range for working with many different subject types. The lens also uses a variable f/4.5-5.6 aperture to keep size to a minimum. Along with this, the optical design incorporates an extra-low dispersion element to combat aberrations and increase contrast throughout the entire zoom range.

For working with fast-moving subjects, the 70-300mm is equipped with a fast and silent Super Sonic wave Motor for autofocus. This is assisted through a rear focusing design and by the inclusion of a focus hold button and electronic focus range limiter on the lens barrels. Users can even focus as close as 3.9' for reaching a 0.25x magnification. Additionally, it has a nine-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

A telephoto zoom designed for full-frame A-mount cameras, the 70-300mm can also be used on APS-C camera systems where it will provide a 105-450mm equivalent focal length.
A variable f/4.5-5.6 maximum aperture helps ensure the overall size and weight of the lens is kept to a minimum while still providing good light-gathering potential and the ability to capture images with shallow depth of field.
One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
An SSM autofocus system and rear focus mechanism provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and also contributes to more natural, intuitive manual focus control. The lens also features a minimum focus distance of 3.9' for achieving a 0.25x magnification.
An electronic focus range limiter switch allows you constrain the usable focus range between a set limited range or full for improving focus speed, and a focus hold button is also featured to manually stop the autofocus at a specified point.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

question

Does Sony or someone else make a Tripod Collar for this lens? It's a bit heavy and I can't find a collar that will work with it. Thanks
Asked by: Jim S.
Hi Jim. I use this lens all the time, but have never had the need to use a tripod collar, and am unaware of any supplier. Sorry I couldn't be of any help, but the lens is amazing don't you think?

question

I am pretty sure I would need an adapter to mount this lens on my Sony a5000, right? If I do use an adapter, will the image stabilization and auto-focus functions work?

question

Will this lens work on sony a6000 without any adapters?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, you will need an a E to A mount adapter. Lens is A-mount, camera is E-mount. There should be a Sony E-mount lens around 70-300mm. The lens you are asking about is a wonderful lens that gives excellent pictures.

question

I am purchasing an a7s and am considering this as my telephoto zoom. will use adaptor. I currently have a canon t3i with the efs 55-250 lens. I am all confused by crop factor and want to know whether this lens will have the same corresponding focal length as my canon lens. The efs 55-250 is only for aps-c, so does that mean when mounted on aps-c is it 55-250 or actually 85-400? I want to have the same reach with my a7s, do I need to go for the 70-400 to have the same corresponding reach as the 55-250?

The A7 and adapter will treat your crop factor in the same way that a less than full frame sensor will. You will suffer no degradation in function or quality. I have found the A7 to be a wonderful camera and with the adapter you don't need to buy new lenses. Great choice.

question

Will this lens or the Sony alpha mount work on the Sony a7 camera without an adapter?
Asked by: Anonymous
Since the Sony A7 has the Sony E-mount, you will need an adapter to use a lens such as the Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G Telephoto Zoom Lens. You will need the Sony A-Mount to Sony E-mount adapter: http://bhpho.to/1bKe4G1

question

Will it work on my Sony Nex-7 mirrorless camera. Could its weight and cause excessive strain on the camera?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G telephoto zoom lens will be compatible with the Sony NEX-7 with the use of the Sony A-Mount to Sony E-Mount adapter: http://bhpho.to/1bKe4G1The weight will not cause excessive strain on the camera, and there is a tripod collar built in to the adapter to assist in weight distribution.

question

Will this lens work on the full frame A99 without vignette?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G Telephoto Zoom Lens is a full frame lens, so it will be fully compatible with the full frame Sony Alpha/Minolta Maxxum mount cameras such as the A99. The image circle of the lens will cover the entire full frame sensor.
