Nikon HB-39 Overview

The dedicated Nikon HB-39 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR AF-S DX NIKKOR lenses.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lenses it was designed for.

I had a 55-300 Nikon with an awkward spring loaded clip in order to mount it. This twist on works so much easier and I guess it does what a lens hood is supposed to do.

Got this lens hood for my 18-300 mm lens. I use a lens hood on all my camera lenses to protect the front of the lens from accidental damage. The HB-39 is made by Nikon so you know that this lens hood will fit your particular lens correctly.

I think that the hood worked fine in terms of blocking unwanted light (used it, for instance, at a wedding in the summer of 2021 in Virginia in July twilight). But several months later I went to take the hood off, and it was broken, and when I took it off, it scratched and scuffed my lens where the hood attaches. I had to throw it out. And it certainly reduced the resale of my $700 Nikkor 18-300 lens. Very strange. I shall buy another one (what else am I going to do?). But yes, I am disappointed. It is just a little too cheaply made for an expensive lens. I never dropped it, never abused it. I can't imagine what happened.

Received in appropriate amount of time. This was one of two items ordered. Still waiting for 2nd item, been 3 weeks. Fitted hood on a Nikon 18-300 mm. Perfect fit. Haven’t had the opportunity to try it out.

Nothing fits like the name brand products for Nikon. This lens hood fits my 67mm 18-300 mm lens perfectly, and the design allows me to quickly reverse it on the lens for storage. B&H is great-their selection of products is vast, price is good and shipping is fast. Well Done B&H!

Will this item fit a Nikon d5300 camera with 52 mm threads and the lenses are 18-55 mm and 70-300mm

The Nikon HB-39 Bayonet Lens Hood for 16-85mm and 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR Lenses, B&H # NIHB39, does not have filter threads and would not screw into the 52mm filter threads on the front of a lens. The lens hood has a dedicated bayonet mount connection that is specifically designed to connect to the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR lens and the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. Nikon lens hoods are dedicated to specific lenses. As you did not list the full model name of the lenses you own, if you are simply looking for screw-in lens hoods, third-party options that would be compatible for your usage needs would be the Sensei 52mm Quick Clip Lens Hood, B&H # SELNQC52, which would work with your 18-55mm lens, while the Hama 52mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 24mm to 210mm Lenses, B&H # HALHZ52, would be compatible for use with your 70-300mm lens.

As long as the width of your actual glass lens is 62mm then the hood should fit correctly. If you have a filter on your lens then the width of the filter would match.

No, this will not work on the 18-55mm. This is for a 67mm lens and the 18-55mm is I think either 52mm or 58mm. See what size filter that lens uses and find a hood that is meant for a similar sized lens. I think either the 35mm f1.8 or the 50mm f1.8 will have a similar size, check on those hoods.
