Manfrotto 158 reviews

158 Female Converter Socket - 5/8" to 5/8" (16mm) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved the problem of studio lights not fitting my C stands. Purchased this and a double ended spigot so my affordable studio lights would fit on my Century stands. If you have this problem you know exactly what I am talking about, the baby pin has a much longer machined recess than the socket is deep so the light never really fits. I put the double ended spigot in the converter and use the setscrew to hold it in. Now I can mount my 52 octobox to my light and it is solid as a rock. Worked so well I purchased another set and another Century stand. If you have this problem the spigot is B&H # IMCA100 and this is B&H # MA158 so you don't have to look it up.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs Slight Improvement. Manfrotto is quite reliable. I would recommend their products to almost anyone. However, this piece needs slight alteration in order to comply with the high standard Manfrotto has set. Due to its (plastic) construction, it will not allow for an entirely secure connection with a 5/8'' stand. Chances are, alterations will be made to this specific converter. For now, beware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good device. Poor design element. This is the ideal product to couple 5/8 studs. However, what was the point in having one knob and one screw? I replaced the set screw with a modified knob made from a screw and wing nut and it is now completely operable by hand. No tool needed. My dedicated usage is to join 2 extension poles to have adequate height to place microphones above head level, but am still able to pack the poles under 20 using Matthews extension poles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful piece of gear This is a cost effective way to convert a light with a spigot into one with a receptor instead. While some people seem frustrated that it has only one tightening knob, I don't see that as a problem. In my experience, its best use is to attach the adapter to the light using the included set screw and leave it there. Now the light has a 5/8 receptor just like a more conventional fixture. The quality is very good; the unit is sturdy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Modify for easier operation I found the set-screw a poor design feature. Why was it used? Why not 2 knobs? My quick fix was a new screw, hex head - 6mm x 1.00 with an attached wing-nut for a grip. Easy on ,easy off, no tool required. If you need to couple 5/8 studs there is no better alternative.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fits perfect It does exactly what it says, and fit well on both ends. Only gave it 3 stars just because it's not exactly easy to get excited by a converter socket.
