Allen & Heath ZED-12FX Overview

The multipurpose Allen & Heath ZED-12FX mixer combines six mic/line inputs, three stereo inputs for effect returns and portable music players or keyboards, a 24-bit effects processor, and a USB digital audio interface compatible with Mac and Windows computers-in a compact and portable package small enough for carrying to your gig, whether recording live or in the studio.

Channels 1 through 6 can be accessed through balanced XLR or 1/4" mic/line inputs and feature low-noise DuoPre preamps with 69 dB of gain. They are also equipped with responsive, 3-band swept-mid EQs, which utilize MusiQ technology to optimize the Q factor proportional to the amount of boost or attenuation.

The built-in DSP engine offers sixteen effects to choose from, ranging from classic reverbs and delays to cascaded delays with reverbs and shimmering flanger and chorus effects. Delay tempo can be set on the fly using the convenient TAP button.

The ZED-12FX offers a set of four Aux/FX sends, 48V microphone phantom power, XLR main stereo outputs with inserts, a comprehensive monitoring section with two headphone outputs, and a separate monitor speaker output.

question

With this recording mixer, do i still need a DAW (such as an avid mbox) or a microphone pre amp?
Asked by: Makonnen M.
A USB connector delivers direct integration with Mac and Windows computers, and a copy of Sonar LE recording software is included. So no additional purchase is necessary for computer integration. There are 6 line/mic inputs available as well.

question

I bought a Behringer FX2000 processor. How do I hook it up to the A&H Zed 12FX??
Asked by: Anonymous
https://www.allen-heath.com/media/AP7085_3-ZED12FX_ZED16FX_ZED22FX-User-Guide-Issue-3.pdfThe above link will take you to the User Guide of ZED12FX and other similar models from Allen & Heath. Study the guide for information. If you plan to connect the Behringer or other external FX units to the ZED, we recommend doing so by patching the unit to the ZED mixer through a post-fader AUX send. Do this by using (3) unbalanced or balanced 1/4 cables (guitar cables). Use balanced cables if the distance is long, otherwise for short distance, unbalanced cables are fine.Take Cable #1 and run it from the ZED FX send to the FX2000 mono (L) input. This is usually on the rear panel of the FX unit. Take Cable #2 and Cable #3 from the L and R outputs of the FX2000 (on rear panel) and connect these to one of the STEREO input channels on the ZED. Input a signal (microphone for example) into a channel on the ZED.Now, be sure to turn up the knobs and faders on the ZED's channel send and Master section to hear your FX2000's effect on the mic.Understand that with this method you are taking your signal out of the ZED to the FX2000 and then back into the ZED.Read the User Guide for more details.
