Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow Setup I got this record player for my Mom as it is fully automatic and she wont have to remember to pick up the needle at the end. She has little use for any advanced features. This product fulfills its purpose nicely. One large inconvenience is the output RCA cables are extremely short and hard wired. You will inevitably need to buy an RCA extension cable if the receiver is not directly next to or below the record player.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plays Nice with Mac I purchased this turntable to digitize vinyl LPs to a computer using the USB connection. (I will not be connecting it to a receiver for standalone use, so I cannot rate it on that basis.) For about the same price as other manufacturers' offerings, I chose this model for a few reasons: this turntable features an automatic tonearm, a decent stylus, a rubber slip mat (not felt), and a hinged cover. I withheld one star from my review because there are improvements I would like to see that would not add manufacturing expense, such as a curved tonearm rather than straight, and RCA jacks rather than a hard-wired cable. I cannot comment on the software included with the turntable, as it is PC-only. Sony does not make clear whether this model works with Mac, but it does. I plugged it in to the Mac and it was instantly recognized in the System Preferences | Sound panel as an audio input source. For the record, I used Bias Peak software to digitize the LPs and SoundSoap Pro to filter out the hiss, crackles and pops; however, any audio editing software, free or retail, that utilizes the Mac's core audio should play nice with this turntable. Even though I have used a lot of Sony gear over the years and expected good results, the quality of the digitized audio files was still surprisingly good. My clients are very pleased with the results, and that is really the measure I care most about. I would absolutely recommend this turntable. While perhaps not intended to be used by a professional or an audiophile, it definitely hits its intended target as a solid consumer-market entry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simplicity is Beauty This machine has perfect tone and balance. It has a great sound when paired with a good sound system. It lacks some of the features of a professional turntable ( such as a tone-arm balance adjustment, and tenability) but it really is simple enough for anyone to use. It is well built, and is well tuned. The table is well balanced, and the convenient dust cover keeps records clean while in use. I have the player set up in my room, and I play about 10-12 records a day. It brings all the highs and lows and plays beautifully.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality product Based on research, I'm using Audacity with my new turntable to convert 70's LP's to MP3. No problems with either hw or sw, but I did have to reset some Windows parameters to get WMP to work again. Never tried the supplied software. Sony turntable runs great, has just the features needed to make LP conversion to MP3 easy, and the sound quality is fine both via USB and the two-level audio connection (phones or line). Saved a few $ going B&H as well, it took maybe three days to arrive in Texas via free shipping option.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Turntable Bought this turntable to convert old vinyl to MP3's to play in car. The turntable itself works nicely, but Sony's provided software is lacking. Keeps wanting to cut off the end of songs and it looks like it's an old version that ships with the turntable with no support available. I'm pretty tech savy and was able to work around the fact that you can't hear the songs playing through your computer's speakers while recording, but haven't yet found a way to solve the songs being cut off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hums when connected to receiver I getting a high shrill hum when connected to my HK 3485 Harman/Kardon receiver. That is a big negative, because it is in the recordings, too. The overall hookup to USB works fine when I disconnect from the receiver, but that leaves me with lower quality speakers on the PC. Many turntables have a ground wire, not this one, if that is the problem

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product and good price Very easy to install and operate. I have only used it to digitize my old 33 records, which is a snap to do. Like others, I had trouble with set up so I could listen to a record while digitizing to my computer. It finally worked, but I'm not really sure what I did. The sound through the computer speakers seems noisy, but the recorded wav(and mp3) files are very clean. I would definitely recommend this product.
