This is an Impact 45" white satin umbrella with removable black backing. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a softbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

This size is perfect for a 1 - 2 person half-length portrait, or a 3x4 ft product setup.

Backing may be removed half way, providing a unique combination of light bounced from different surfaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ALL THE WAY IMPACT When I had ordered and received the Impact 45'' White with black removal backing, I knew I had found a perfect Lighting modifier. This is one of the cheaper ones listed but yet I feel I got the better end of the deal on this. The impact is very sturdy, The is no plastic pieces or parts on this and it was measured at a perfect 45.... Other modifiers I have order that are bigger named and bigger priced have not satisfied me as much as the lower priced impact umbrellas(NOTE) VERY PLEASED WITH B&H...GREAT PRODUCTS AND SERVICE) Expertise: 3 Years Studio photography Problems Encountered: NO PROBLEMS Previous Equivalent Item Owned: SMITH-VICTOR 45'' White/Black

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great intro to off camera flash This was my first dip into off camera flash. The price and the convenience convinced me to purchase this over a softbox. Having been able to use it a few weeks now, I am a fan. If you want more directed control of your light, shooting through this umbrella gives you fantastic results. If you desire more dispersed light, the black backing works great by allowing you to turn the umbrella 180 degrees and bounce the flash back towards your subject. Only concern I've found is that being a larger umbrella, it can prove difficult to handle outdoors even with a soft breeze. But for the price point, the quality and usefullness cannot be beaten!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Light Reflection!! I give this product 5 stars because for the money - this product works amazing. Granted, so long as you have really good speedlites or strobes - this umbrella gives off vibrant and even lighting for your subjects. I use this for portraits mainly. Attached some samples below. I used a Canon 5d Mk II and a Canon Speedlite 600ex with this bad boy and it worked great. Awesome investment - go for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good value. Perhaps a bit fragile. I bought this umbrella based on the overwhelming reviews. It is everything you have read in other people's reviews, but I have found that it is a bit fragile. The center shaft has a tendency to detach from the umbrella itself. The cap holding the umbrella to the shaft can become loose. This is bad when umbrella is extended as it will cause the umbrella to collapse. The threads holding the fabric to the ribbing seems a bit inadequate, but it seems to have held together well so far after 2 months of usage. Otherwise an excellent umbrella for the price and its frailty can be overlooked. Primarily used as a shoot-through umbrella.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value in light modifier I have been using a smaller set of Impact reflected only umbrellas for portrait photography. School and church directories, senior photos, etc. When I wanted to add direct/diffused light to the mix, there are a lot of choices, but these are superior when value is kept as a high requirement. Sure, softboxes are great, but they cost more and are only good as softboxes. Since I mostly do field work, having my gear do double duty is great, and by being able to do both reflected and direct lighting, these help keep the D-Day Invasion supply train in check. Results are good. i have not had them enough to really test durability yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If (compact) size is not the priority... Notice that this is the full-size umbrella, meaning it is not telescopic and when retracted it's pretty long at about 45. You can easily remove the black cover to make it become a shoot-through, but the black cover does not have silver coating inside, so it will not reflect as well as a silver reflecting one. For me it is not a minus, since I use it mostly as a shoot-through, and the reflecting is aonly neat add-on. The tip of the umbrella where you attach to the light stands has some piece of metal inside to reinforce, so you can tighten it to the stand without worrying to damage it. All in all this umbrella is a functional (did I mention good pricing?) one for stationary usage. I will not recommened it to someone who needs a compact umbrella for location shooting though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Buy for the money I purchased this to be primarily a shoot through umbrella, but since it costs as much as a regular shoot through, I figured it'd be stupid to buy anything else. Overall, the quality seems pretty good, I did severely damage one of my umbrellas when an unsecured light stand with close to 40lbs of top weight fell on top of it. However, after bending the metal back into place, it works as it should without showing any external signs of wear. However, I will be grabbing a could thin pieces of metal to reinforce the ones it comes with as they are incredibly light weight, and I'm sure more abuse will come about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended Great for anything you do in studio. Have not yet tested for long distance shooting, But yet the wider the umbrella the wider your lighting. Great for normal studio use. The Logo peals a little but yet, no downfalls....Great modifier
