    Manfrotto 357PLV reviews

357PLV Quick Release Plate for Video is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not just for photography! I originally bought this head for photographing birds. It works very well for this application. Along the way I also found it to be a great spotting scope mount. Just as in photographing birds, I can pan around the large flocks of waterfowl that gather in this area each winter very easily. It stays where I stop and has fluid movement. My only negative comments would be that there is not a flash bracket available to get flash over the lens ( had to build my own). And the rubber pad on the QR plate will not stay glued down. Other than that well worth what I paid for it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what I expected This item was listed under the 'Accessories' tab for my Manfrotto tripod head so I assumed that meant it was what I needed, as I was looking for a second tripod plate to keep with my camera package. Unfortunately, when it arrived, it was not the right size and didn't fit. Also, the photo is misleading as this plate doesn't come with the 2 standard size screws to mount to the camera. Instead, it comes with the smaller sized screw and a screw adapter to size up the smaller screw to the bigger hole, which is a big pain if the adapter gets stuck in the bottom of your camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great plate for easy flow while shooting I use about 3 of these plates and adapters with my 2 manfrotto 516 heads & tripods. I attach one to my slider, one plate horizontally and one vertically. I attach one adapter and plate to my shoulder rig. I also attach one to my 2nd camera rod system and another to my steadicam setup. This setup makes it easy to move evetything around in seconds which is neccessary when shooting a wedding.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as shown or described If you want to know what you will get in the mail, you need to look at Manfrotto 357 Pro Quick Release Adapter with 357PL Plate. This has the same bad description of the product, but shows the correct image of what you will get. So for me, I was not satisfied because I need to put a 3/8 screw in the slot for my camera. The 3/8 does not fit, there is no hole with rubber stop. It comes with (1) 1/4 screw and a small threaded 3/8 adapter to place on the 1/4 screw. Not at all what I want. But, this is the only plate I can find that would work on a Manfrotto 510 head. They dont make this model anymore and someone gave me this, so I want to use it. I will modify the plate myself, but B&H needs to fix their image and description to match what they are selling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extra Plate for Manfrotto 393 I have three plates; one for my Minolta 300mm f2.8, and one for Minolata 600mm f4 lens. The reason I have one on each lens is because I want to change quickly sometimes. I have to tighten the screws a lot, with a screw driver -- not just using the knurled knob, to keep the plate fixed to the lens on the bigger lenses. On my 600mm lens there is enough space between the mounting holes on the lens support piece to use both a large mounitng screw and a small one which gives a rock solid mounting to the 357 plate of my 5.5 kg (over 12 lbs)lens. I got my 3rd plate for my camera mounting to the fantastic Manfrotto 393 gimbal mount because I can't imagine using any other tripod-head combination now that I have used it. However, I wish the 357 was about 1/2 as long for use with my camera. Though it is perfect for the big lenses. But maybe I will use this third plate for another lens one day, that's why I haven't cut it off yet. The 357 plate is solid, and comes with two screws of each size. I feel confident my fancy lens or camera will not fall off and come crashing down when I put my lens with plate attached on my 393 gimbal mount. There is a spring loaded pin which must be depressed to remove the lens from the 393 gimbal mount. The entire Manfrotto 393 with 357 plate is solid and accurately manufactured. It is a dream to use. I do not want anything else as far as gimbal and mounting plates goes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What you see is not what you get! What you see is not what you get. This plate has been changed. B&H pulled up three of these for me and they all contain one screw and an 3/8 adapter piece. And get this, the adapter is supposed to be used to keep the one screw from falling out! B&H suggested I call Manfrotto and have them send me the three additional screws they have in the photos AND advertised on their own website. You know what Manfrotto said? They said, No. They said that is the way the plate comes now. When I mentioned the photos on their website and when I mentioned that I can't secure a VCT plate or dovetail with one screw AND that I just purchased their top of the line fluid head 526 for a lot of money, they said No, that's the way the plate comes now. They admitted the photos on their website were wrong and that they would update them. Well that was over a month ago and their photos on their website are still the same. If this sounds ridiculous and crazy, trust me, I felt and feel the same way. B&H was great and actually gave me an extra plate for free so I would have the minimum of two screws required to attach my VCT plate. Manfrotto sent me the screws a week later after I complained about them on Twitter and Facebook and after Manfrotto in Europe contacted me and said they would call the US office and make it right. But, I was so disgusted with Manfrotto and their customer service I returned their top of the line 526 fluid head and tripod (2k worth of equipment) and bought a real professional head that has genuine customer support. One that has more than 3 settings of drag and tilt. Manfrotto lost my business for life (this was all I ever owned) for a pennies worth of screws. Again, this plate comes with ONE screw and a cheap PLASTIC pin. If you are a filmmaker with anything other than a light weight DSLR or mirrorless (not a rig) you cannot use this plate without purchasing extra screws and a METAL pin. If you are a photographer with a heavy camera, don't risk it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product - Probably Under Rated I use this plate for all my cameras and large lenses. I use them because I do a lot of panoramic images using Bogen's Panoramic Head Equipment. These plates combined with Bogen quick release plates have a very good safety latch. Arca Swiss seems to get all the attention and is perhaps, and I mean perhaps, is slightly more refined but at a higher cost. Bogen has done a great job with this system. In fact I prefer this system to Arca Swiss because of its release qualities. I.e. the safety latch feels more secure to me and the release screw releases easier than Arca Swiss. Although I am not an expert on Arca Swiss I have used their system several times on a trial basis. I even exchanged the Arca Swiss plate on my older Wimberly Head to a Bogen in order to be compatible with all of my Bogen equipment.
