The Manfrotto 131D Side Arm mounts on the center post of tripods with a 3/8" thread. It allows easy shooting straight down to the ground without having to get the tripod column and legs into the picture. Double-sided screws (1/4-20" on one side, 3/8" on other) enable cameras to be mounted on either or both ends.

Unfortunately the max load capacity is not listed by Manfrotto but if i had to guess, I would say 10-15lbs.

In general any Manfrotto Flat Base Video or Photography Style Head will have a 3/8"-16 thread for mounting.

The specs say: '1/4"-20 on one side, 3/8" on other'. In the photos, it looks like one side has a 1/4"-3/8" adapter. Is the adapter included? (Can I attach two 3/8" heads out-of-the-box or do I need to purchase an adapter?)

Yes, but i would highly recommend attaching it directly to the tripod, much more stable.

Yes, it can fit onto any tripod with a 3/8-16 mounting thread which all of the Manfrotto and most other brand tripods have. You would just need to take the lateral arms weight into account when using it.
