Manfrotto 454 Overview

The Manfrotto 454 Micrometric Positioning Sliding Plate is a quick release system that allows for some positioning within the clamp for fore-aft macro adjustments.

It is the ideal tool to make precise positioning movements to achieve the perfect framed shot, for macro photography, for QTVR, and other precise copy/repro work. This plate has finger-tip control for ultra-fine positioning, but has a simple lock-release lever for fast set-up.

Two plates can be interlocked at 90° for full lateral/forward/back movement (over 4.7"). Made of extruded aluminum, the plate has 1/4"-20 and 3/8" holes and screws for tripod and camera mounting.

Replaces old part number 3419.

question

can I mount a manfrotto 394 to it
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the Manfrotto 454 Micrometric Positioning Sliding Plate will work with the Manfrotto 394. The bottom of the plate has a inch female thread and will work with most tripod heads and quick release plates.

question

I am considering more involvement in macro photography. I understrand the purpose of rails and photo stacking. I am wondering about the use of cable release and a lens ring to add to the stability of the set up. However, is it possible to use a cable release with a Nikon D90?
Asked by: Anonymous
There are many remotes for the D90. This is a wired remote for the D90, http://bhpho.to/1alWxywAnd this is a wireless version, http://bhpho.to/1cm0HdBA lens ring can either be a reverse ring to attach two lenses together for macro photography or it could mean a Macro ring light.

can i mount arca swiss clamp on rail?

can i mount arca swiss clamp on rail?
Asked by: BARBARA
If you are referring to connecting a camera with an Arca-type quick release plate to the top of the Manfrotto 454 Micrometric Positioning Sliding Plate, then as long as the quick release plate you own also has a female-threaded 1/4"-20 socket on the bottom of the plate, it would be compatible for your usage needs. Not all Arca-type quick release plates have 1/4"-20 threads on the base of the plate, so it will depend on your specific quick release plate as to if it would be compatible for your usage needs. If you are referring to using a separate accessory quick release clamp that is Arca-compatible, they all usually have either a 1/4"-20 or a 3/8"-16 female tripod socket on the base of the unit, so they should be compatible. If your quick release clamp uses the larger 3/8"-16 socket, you can purchase a reducer bushing such as the Oben 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing, B&H # OB1039, for your usage needs.

I just received this product and the two screws were in a little plastic bag. They do not fit through the opening in the sliding rail so there is now way that I can mount my camera. Am I missing something about assembling this product?
Asked by: Susan
One end of the rail is threaded, just screw into that thread up through the rail.

I have Manfrotto 488RC4 ballhead with that RC4 quick release system. Will this railing snap on as is? The two answers below seemed to be contradictory.

You use your existing plate that you normally screw into your camera and screw that plate to the botton of the Manfrotto 454 sliding plate. Then you use the screw on the Mahfrotto 454 to attach your camera.
