The 2.3Mp ClearVid CMOS sensor with Exmor technology and a BIONZ image processor provides excellent footage and 4Mp stills. The HDR-TG1 also features Super SteadyShot image stabilization, a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, Dual Record and Quick On functions. In addition, the helpful Face Detection technology ensures that you never blur your loved ones faces at a once-in-a-lifetime event again.

Full High Definition 1920 x 1080 Recording

Record in true 1920 x 1080 HD for the clearest, cleanest image possible.

Slim, Sophisticated Design

The titanium body of the HDR-TG1 adds a stylish, modern look to this camera, while enabling it to be incredibly lightweight.

2.3Mp ClearVid CMOS Sensor

The ClearVid CMOS sensor provides excellent image quality for both video and (4Mp) stills while Exmor technology infuses each high resolution and sensitivity into each image. The BIONZ image processor weeds visual noise, ensuring that each pixel is clean and crisp.

Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens

Natural, brilliant and detailed images are captured each and every time with the professional quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens.

10x Optical Zoom

10x optical zoom brings all the action up close without a loss in image quality.

Smooth Slow Record

The camera's smooth slow record function allows you to capture fast motion without blurring. This function increases the record rate from 60 fields per second to 240 fps for three seconds. The three captured seconds of swift motion will be played back in 12, enabling you to view each minute detail.

Dual Record

Record both video and still images when you're filming in HD thanks to the dual record function.

x.v. Color Technology

x.v. color technology brings out the full array of colors captured by the HDR-TG1 that most camcorders aren't able to pick up. Twice as many colors than normal are shown, allowing for more life-like, accurate color reproduction.

Quick On

Quick On mode allows your camcorder to start recording at a touch, so you never miss that once-in-a-lifetime moment ever again! One touch puts the camera in sleep mode, while another touch turns it immediately back on.

Face Detection

Face Detection promises that you'll never blur out your loved ones faces again. This BIONZ image processor enabled function allows the camera to focus on up to eight faces at a time to control focus, exposure and color for clear faces and natural skin tones.

Handycam Station

Aside from being a great place to dock your camcorder when you're not using it, the Handycam Station also charges it and provides quick connections to your TV or PC for editing or sharing.

One Touch Disc Burn

Included software allows you to burn a disc of your footage with just one touch when the camera is connected to your PC via USB cable.

InfoLITHIUM Battery

The rechargeable Sony InfoLITHIUM Battery displays remaining battery time on the viewfinder and LCD, does not shorten battery life, otherwise known as "Memory Effect".

HDMI Connection

The featured HDMI connection provides an audio and video connection to your HDTV with a single cable. BRAVIA Sync technology enables you to control both the camcorder or the HDTV via a BRAVIA TV remote.

USB 2.0

The high speed USB 2.0 connection enables fast transfer of video and stills to your PC.

Switchable HD/SD Format

The HDR-TG1 allows you to record in both HD or SD formats.

Manual Focus

Manual focus lets you take control of the scene and show your artistic side.

Memory Stick PRO Duo Media

Video and still images are captured onto Sony's own Memory Stick PRO Duo media (up to 8GB) with the HDR-TG1, allowing for fast transfer of images for printing, editing and emailing.

Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization

Avoid the age old problem of hand shake with Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization without a loss in recording quality.

Sony HDR-TG1 Reviews

Wonderfully small monopod mate!

Bought this camera at B&H when SONY was discontinuing the 5.1 feature and adding the geotagging (!) Even if it is not perfect (C'mon- FIVE button mics on this puppy at that time was a major feat!) Geotagging has no wow factor for me. People will state it is hard to hold, which it true. But with a monopod or small tripod thread handle, it is very stealthy - people don't know what it is, so some of the 'I'm on camera' awareness is gone. James Bond design and materials, it says as much about your style as what you are capturing. Memory Stick is great - Especially when using a Sony card reader and iMovie (FCP is beyond my needs and I create a lot of videos). Not much bigger than a pack of cigs, I have shot events sitting down, raising this camera over my head with the monopod and the screen tilted downwards. No qualms from the people sitting in back of me. Love this SONY camera!

I would buy this product again

I love the videos this video camera takes. It's 1080i which is awesome. I also love that it's so easy to take a still picture as well. I would def buy this product again

ok, but what did I buy?

Would be nice to know if the stabilization is actually optical or digital. There are sites that describe it either way depending on who you believe. Sad that Sony can't accurately describe what they are selling -- though that seems to be then norm for them lately. In many cases, my Nikon d300s captures a 'better looking' video, despite the fact that the Nikon is only 720p. On the other hand, the Nikon doesn't fit in my coat pocket...

perfect camcorder for people on the go!

We picked up this camcorder to capture moments with our young kids--we noticed that most people don't bother lugging around the larger camcorders anymore and settle for lower quality videoclips on their digital cameras. This one is small enough to tuck in your pocket or purse, but has a phenomenal 10x optical zoom lens with image stabilization, and also records in HD with 5.1 surround sound. Software included does a nice job indexing the videos with thumbnails, simple editing, and can dump to DVD or! Cons would be battery life--definitely pick up a spare battery, and also a bigger Memory stick than what's included. For now, the best pocket camcorder on the market--pricey, but worth the memories you would have lost!

The HDR-TG1's light weight and small size make it an ideal video cam to carry with my D90 to document my travels. It fits into a pocket very smoothly and does not hang up when removing it to shoot an unexpected photo op. It's light weight requires bracing yourself and/or the camera to insure a smooth pan or steady shot. If you don't have time to return it to a pocket, let it dangle from it's strap. The few onces won't hamper shooting stills. The HDMI connection connects directly to an enabled HD TV and I can review both video and D90 shots on a big screen. I suggest practicing with it to get used to the zoom control and the need to have a steady hand while recording. I carry spare batteries so battery life is not an issue with me. My only complaint applies to the lack of a view finder--bright light, reflections and sun glasses hamper easily framing your scene and results in some unexpected video shots.

Amazing Little Camcorder

This is one of the best High Def camcorders for under 500.00. Amazing images both video and still. Some have said it is slow changing from movie to still and that the image quality isn't that great, I am thinking they are just spoiled. I can honestly say I cant find anything wrong with that I got for my $. Now do I wish it had night shot, sure, but then again, for the price I paid I am extremely happy.

It's very small and have great image. Manual adjustments are good for play with it. The touchscreen menu make the display always dirty with finger prints, i don't like this system.

very poor low light performance

Great outdoors -- horrible indoors. Worse low light performance than any of the half dozen camcorders I have owned over the years.
