wHAT IS THE BUTTON FOR AT THE BASE OF THE CENTER COLUMN?
Asked by: George
The button is so you can deploy the column laterally. In other words, you can flip over the column horizontally so you can shoot down, directly over your subject.

question

What is the difference between this and the slightly cheaper Manfrotto MT055XPRO3. The description on the MT055PRO3 says it replaces this 055XPROB. The 055XPROB is a bit taller, heavier and a bit more expensive, so is the MT055PRO3 really a better tripod? I want to buy the best option and both are still available, but the MT055PRO3 is on sale right now and significantly less.
Asked by: Anonymous
The Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 features positive locks which are more secure, as well as being slightly taller than the 055XPROB. Additionally, the MT055XPRO3's chassis that holds center column in place is now recessed in tripod which saves space, features a rotating bubble level on base, and EasyLink 3/8 thread mounted in tripod that allows you to hold an accessory off to the side.

question

Could this tripod/ballhead setup handle the weight of the Canon 5d Mark 111 with medium size telephoto lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes most definitely. The tripod/head have a combined weight capacity of 13lbs, and the 5D Mk III combined with a 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II lens for instance comes to just under 6lbs.

question

will the vanguard THB-300 heavy duty Ball head fit on this tripod ?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro Aluminum Tripod will feature a 3/8 male thread. This will fit most standard heads that feature a female 3/8 connection. There is also an option of a 1/4-20 connection, via reducer bushing.

question

Is the center column reversible on this tripod? I.e. can I hang the camera upside down between the legs?
Asked by: Anonymous
The center column is not reversible, but it can be positioned to a horizontal 90 degree angle for macro/nature/copy work. Click through the images on this product link and the 3rd and 4th images will showcase the tripod with this positioning.
