The Varizoom VZ-Rock-EX is a zoom rocker controller designed specifically for the Sony PMW-EX1 camcorder. The rocker is pressure-sensitive for fine-tuned zoom adjustments and provides clean and easy operation. The unit is durable yet lightweight, making it the most compact control for the camera availible.

Pressure Sensitive Rocker Switch
Unlike many camera controllers, the VZ-Rock-EX comes equipped with a pressure sensitive rocker switch. This allows users to vary the rocker's speed, providing smooth, sustainable zoom adjustments.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mounting bracket too samll! I used this with the EX-1 and, while appreciate the build quality, was a bit upset to see that the mounting bracket and the screw/threads are too shallow it fit my tripod arm(vinten 3?) I am only able to get the screws around maybe 2 threads before it gets too tight on the padded handle. Because there is no rubber/pad on the underside i can't mount directly to metal arm, becasue then it would be plastic on metal and not able to be secured adequately. I am retuning it for the Libec that i was fortunate to use this past weekend. It has a different mounting mechanism that allows it to be mounted on metal part of arm because it has rubber contact points.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like this remote control I changed cameras from a Sony with LANC control to a Sony EX3 that is more limited in that respect. The EX3 is a nice controller with good zoom speed but I miss the tally light that the VZRock had. Not a Varizoom issue but a capability that Sony didn't provide for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Nice smooth zooms!!! Just be careful not to tighten to tight to your tripod arm or shoulder support arm. The back piece is made out of plastic and will break. I wound up ... buying a metal replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Important piece of equipment I used this product with my Sony EX1. I work with a video group doing weddings and they requested I get this peice of gear. I mount this on a tripod and used it to control zoom. The zoom starts and ends smoother than it does using the zoom on the camera. It is also more convience to use having it mounted to the handle on the tripod rather than on the zoom on top of the camera. The piece of equipment is cost effective as it make a noticable different in the video quality for only $

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too much play! Purchased for use on the EX3, the item does what it is supposed to, but has a lot of play when pressing the button to zoom in either direction. Reminds me of when the brakes are going out on a car. You keep pushing gently, trying to get the smooth zoom, but the amount of pressure needed to get a response from the mechanism and to the zoom itself makes the item feel cheap. I'd recommend the Libec Zoom Controller before this, much cheaper and works better.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than the others I have an EX and tried the Manfroto first and then the Libec did not even fit. This is better than the Manfroto, but it is still not great. I have decided the problem is the lens, and no matter how good the zoom control is, it still will not be good enough to do a nicely feathered slow zoom without a jerk at the beginning. I plan on returning this and finding an inexpensive 1/2 lens that I can use with the adapter ring that came with the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets the job done well A lower price when compared to others. VZ-Rock-EX makes it a little easier to zoom smoothly over using the built-in camera rocker (especially since it mounts on a pan handle). Good position for the record button to help avoid pushing it accidentally. Easily adjustable and mounted without tools. Fits on my 701HDV pan handles with ease. I'll definitely shoot with less fatigue and produce better quality with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice sturdy product This seems to be a beefy unit but lacks features of the Manfrotto. I like both but ended up keeping the Manfrotto and sending back the Varizoom. It seemed to fit my use a little better but both seem to work great.
